WHAT CHANGES TO THE REFLECTOR WIRE LENGTH NEED TO BE MADE TO TUNE THE Y-QUAD ABOVE THE THE CB BAND. |

Deliz2, if your going higher in frequency, then the elements will get shorter(smaller diameter in case of a quad ele).Do a google search for"quad construction" and you should be able to come up with several Excel spreedsheet type calculators to give the exact dimensions for whatever freqs you need. the whole antenna may need to be shortened, depending on how high up you go. the reflector sides work in conjunction with the element lengths to decide what freq it will operate best at. (the Y-quad isn't really a quad, but a cross-polarized 2 element yagi with a quad-type reflector hoping to equal a 3 element yagi's characteristics. 808's new 3 element beam IS a cross-polarized yagi, & probably gets roughly the same performance as the Y-quad, in a bigger package). where do you plan on using it at & what are the SWRs currently at? is it assembled & up already, or are you planning on 'rebuilding' to your freq specs? if the gammas tune the SWR's low enough on the freq you plan to use it at, you may not wanna bother with changing the length of the reflector-gain/rejection losses would not be noticeable. |

HEY PAT IT'S NOT UP IN THE AIR. WHEN I BOUGHT IT IT WAS UP BUT THE GUY DID'NT HAVE A RADIO TO CHECK IT. I'M GOING TO TRY TO TUNE FOR 27.555. I'VE NEVER OWNED A MACO Y-QUAD BEFORE SO I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH TUNE I HAVE ON THE GAMMAS. THIS ANTENNA COST ME $45. I FIGURE I CAN PLAY WITH THIS ONE AND NOT BE RISKING MUCH IF I MESS UP. THANKS FOR THE COME BACK. JACK |
