I have a General Lee that dk's about 2 watts and swings 40-45 watts. I have an amp which is a two pill and all i know is it has 2sd1449 pills in it. Every shop here in town says it will be ok to use that set up as long as i dont get to long winded. I am looking for help because I believe it is a bad combo. I have a General on a Dave Made 2x4 and only put about 30 watts into it and it's been known to get toasty. I am looking forward to everyones input. The Low Down round Mobile,AL reading the mail... I'm back gone.

NEITHER amp is up to the 45 watt swing. that davemade would be better off with 25 PEP, & the 1 with the 1446's in it, probably more like 15 PEP.

for the 1446 amp, set radio dead key where amp keys about 50-75 watts, then turn mic gain up til it swings 150-175 & you should be good. with the dave, set radio dead key til amp keys about 200, then turn up mic gain til it swings 650, check heat & stop when mic gain makes PEP reach 800-or it gets hot. assuming you have enough amps to power it.

the dave shouldn't be getting toasty with 30 PEP-DON"T put 30 dead key into it! i have a dave 1x4 that i can HAMMER at 400 key & over 1000PEP & it barely gets warm. it is every bit as efficient with 800 coming out & only 200-250 key(when using 14 volts), so why push it any more? if you want more with that radio, try a straight 6.

lowdown,I bet you bought the amp from the radio shop who said it was ok. I bought a cheapy 2 X 1446 from a shop and they said the same thing! I think they tell people that just so they can sell more amps to replace burnt up ones. I would not go back to that shop for anything. Who wants to have to worry how long they talk? Not only that the audio would be sounding like poo!
