The Astatic 636 is a noise canceling mic. You have to hold it about 2 inches from your mouth for it to work right. The idea is for you to be heard and not background noise. Make sure your mic gain it turned up and if you get good audio reports I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah...they put those little rubber lip things on those mics for a reason, your lip needs to be VERY close to it for it to get good audio

Might be just too noisey in that freightliner,my talkback is perfect in my 379 Pete. Magnum radio may help also.

Chaser39, I have used the Astatic 636 mics for a while. I have owned a lot of them. From my past expierence with them I have had a couple that have actually lost there sensitivity for some reason. The audio was actually way lower compared to a new Astatic. The mics were used for about 1 to 2 years daily before trouble occured. Could be from the Indiana winters and summers over and over. I know that cigarette smoke will ruin a mic faster than anything also. Also if you get a scratching sound in the audio when you key the mic the contacts are worn and its time to replace it. Sounds like its time to retire that mic. 73
