Set it at about 3 o'clock. It'll probably sound better there, or mine does anyway. I guess it depends on how high the board inside is cranked. I know Pat's is twisted so far there isn't anyway to turn it backwards....aren't friends nice Pat? |

knob & pot are both cranked, 'chop 526t, road devil, dm452 & turner +2 are all opened maybe 1/16th of an inch. i've been told it's extremely loud, & clean to boot, but i can't hear it myself from where i'm sitting |

On mine, I am at about the 2 o'clock using an Astatic 636L mic. I use it in this pos. when the box is on also and always with the late great Top Gun Modulation control in the OFF pos. They should have put a pencil sharpener in that spot. TGM is not bad, I just don't use it. |

Oh man...a pencil sharpner? I could just see Pat in about the third grade...a S9 bolted to his desktop and him saying "hello DX land...baby pickup truck calling" right in the middle of math. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! And then you hear the sound of a sharpner churning away on a #2 pencil...then the roger beep churpin' to let you know the pencil was sharp...hahahhaha. |

Set the mic gain for best clarity, not "loudness". "Loudness" = splatter, distortion, spurs, and background noise. |

I agree with Pat. Set it where you get the best reports. Be sure the guy giving the report knows the difference between loud & clear and loud & distorted! That nice clean audio thats easy to listen to and understand makes you stick out like a sore thumb in DX land! Cause theres so much bunk out there! |
