Hi. We would like to put a cb in the wifes car, however, there are some "rules". The antenna must look "normal". By that, we mean no big coils, no firesticks, no trucker type antennas, etc... It will be mounted on the trunk, and the antenna itself must be removable. I was thinking of a k40 base load on a magnet mount. Pretty simple, straight forward skinny metal whip. Don't these things screw and unscrew from their own magnet mount? Any suggestions? it is a toyota Camry. 2002. Me, personally would like to put a predator10k. Thnaks. |

James, yes K-40 has a quick 1/4 turn for removal. With Mag Mount(optional) it cost about the same as a Wilson 1000. I think Wilson handles more power and is broader banded. Milkman21218 |

Hi. Well if you want only local use then maybe a Wilson Lil'Wil. If you want more distance with it then I would go with a wilson 1000, it's a little larger but it is removable, I take mine off each time I wash the truck, and you can get out with it, I have made contace with CEF808 and CEF443 from Va Beach with mine and I really like it, oh and it will not come off normal driving, I have had my truck to 95 with it center of the roof and had my last car up to 105 with it on the roof, dont suggest it by no means but have done it for short periods.... Thats my opinion on wilsons though. James CEF#590 CVC349 Va Beach |

On the truck I have a flat-out Firestik stake hole mount in the back, it looks like an RC car, oh well. On the wife's car (SUV) we use a Mag mount tucked in the rear storage area for temp mounting. She has no radio and I use it for trips an monitor thru headphones as a passenger or a single ear monitor when driving in sticky traffic. In my daily driver (sporty hatchback) I use a firestik hatch mount that mounts in the hatch channel with SS screws. There is rarely an antenna on it as I am usually enjoying the drive. But in bad weather or an impending (during) a traffic jam i will put it on and monitor. I roll with it on during the winter an lose it in the summer. The 'lil car (mine) gets shown from time to time and rarely does someone notice the mount (keep it clean). I get some strange looks when I pull a cobra 75WXST out of the hiding space and tell them it's a "CB" it's 50/50 "you're weird" and "what a great idea!" Most of the showing I do is with a younger crowd. One kid asked me after that if I had a record player, my response was "I wish!" Chad |

The K-40 is a good antenna but I would have to sat the wilson 1000 wilson can handle more power and it can take more abuse that the K-40. Also the magnet mount is sold seperate from the antenna the wilson mag mount is there. Setting the SWR is allot easier to set with the wilson that the K-40. Len CEF#189 So,Minnesota |

If she wants the antenna to actually work well and be a "normal" looking basic antenna then I would go with the Wilson 1000 as well. If shes more interested in just listening and stealth then maybe the cb/fm antenna combo. In one of my cars years ago it came with the "disguise" antenna. It work well for the am/fm radio but cb range was terrible like only a mile or so. It did recieve better than you think. I had a lot of fun with that antenna picking on truck drivers and other cbers! Sometimes I was right there under their nose and they had no ideal! |

wilson or k40 mho the wilson will perform slightly better and easier to tune .id also recommend mount on roof instead of trunks.trunk lidshave poor to no ground at all.this will affect your swrs as well as performance, the roof also provides a better ground plane. |
