I SEE THAT THEY OFFER AN "EXPAND AND TUNE" FOR AN ADDITIONAL $30.00...MY QUESTION IS WILL THEY EXPAND THE FREQUENCY OF THE RADIO,AND WHAT WILL IT BE, AND WHAT WILL THEY TUNE THE RADIO OUTPUT POWER TO?? WILL THEY PEEK THE RADIO TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL AS FAR AS THE OUTPUT POWER GOES?? WHAT WILL BE THE POWER OUTPUT ON AM,FM,SSB ?? THANK YOU.....MIKE |

Some say that the stock mic is the best mic to use on the S9. When I get my s9, waiting on the new model I'll will probably try the Astatic 636 for mobile or the JCD mic for base. An opinion of course but I feel that the S9 has plenty of modulation the way it is and with it having a modulator and compressor built in a power mic might be a waste of time. |

I've got a S9 and run a stock mick on one side an a D-104 on the other side, other than just dont overdrive the audio i get a different sound tone and more audio from the power mike, its all up to what want out of the radio,,try it both way and get a audio ck.and go from there,.And you can also ck it on a O scope to see the audio pattern....73's |

the omega & delta use a 'powered' factory mic. it is TOUGH to improve on their 'stock' sound with ANY mic! the S9 isn't powered, finding the right balance with the topgun gets some awesome audio. |

Same with the '257 Don't change the mic!!!!! They are fine electret mic capsules with a frequency response FAR beond of what the radio is capable of, the response is then talored for voice RF use. I have had nothing but glowing reports with the stock arrangement. Chad |

I use a Turner plus 3 with the S9 base, and a Turner RK76 with the S9 mobile. I like those Turners...I also have a Turner plus 3b on the Cobra 2000. |

When I bought my radio from Copper and had the tuning done to the radio for more money they did the channels ( which you can do easily by yourself if you can read), the tuning was done also. When my radio blew a cap and I had warranty work done to it at a authorized repair shop that Sam at Magnum told me to send it too, when they sent the radio back they had a note on it saying they had realign the Rec. and Transmit. So if I were you I would keep the money for the tune and do the channels yourself. If you need any other help, there is plenty of it here from the members. For that 30 bucks you could get a decent noise cancelling mic to go with the radio. You live in Tampa, we have talked from time to time. Yes, there are those that love the stock mic, they are also the ones that tell us Para dynamics makes a good low pass filter. The stock mic is OK if you want a stock mic sound. I am using my 636L now and I like it as long as I can keep the rubber on the lip. I would not use a power mic, you will be louder like I was and people will tell you how loud you are but never say a word of how bad it sounds. That happenened to me, everyone told me how good I sounded, then I find out these moron's think a car running on 1 cylinder sounds good. The S9 is an excellent radio. WR |

Does the frequency counter jump around on transmit or receive or both? Sometimes if an amplifier is mounted too close to the radio the frequency counter becomes unstable on transmit and displays different frequencies. If this is the case move the amplifier away from the radio. |
