What is the SAFE and correct way to Discharge the static charge and Ground my KLV1000, so I can change the Tubes I do not want to kill myself or damage my amp.I am upgrading from the OEM tubes to the Russian built tubes. Thanks |

Drain the plate supply thru a 1K resistor and keep that jumper attached to the plate voltage supply at all times when the lid is open. HV caps can BUILD a residual charge even when powered off. Don't forget the jumper before firing it up, words of wisdom Chad |

Thanks Chad. I have two high value resistors that I am going to connect in parallel with some insulated wire with aligator clips...and use this to drain the caps. Then I will ground the plate caps to the chasis, and keep the chasis connected to my ground bus. |

Bingo, I use something very similar. it's a 1K resistor 5W and an old alagator lead cut in half. Don't forge to heat-shrink the resistor leads so it's all insulated. Make sure you get a good bite on the connection. Chad |

Well the Russian tubes came in the mail today.. Got them for a great price. It took me a mere 30mins to pull the old whimpy looking OEM tubes and install the stout looking Russian tubes. I had to run to Rat Shack to get a replacement 4amp fuse. I am currently burning in the new tubes before I start keying the amp. I keyed the amp one time in low setting and it is swinging to 600 watts!!!! whoooo hooooo. I'll let them burn in for a few days, then I will tune the amp good and let her swinggg. Discharging the amp was a breeze too. I used two 100K ohm resistors wired in parallel and alligator clip ends to bleed the static charge from the amp to ground for about 15mins. Then I used a screw driver to short from top of the tubes to the chasis. After that I was good to go. I am going to reset the dead key from my radio into the amp. With these tubes I should see over 1200 watts easy on AM. Thanks Chad for the help. |

Good news! I have always preferred the russian tubes myself but I do mostly AF work. If The customer wants NOS American I will source them and they will pay, but Sovtek and Svetlana's seem to do well for me. Sovtek's a little better in terms of durability and abuse. Chad |
