Answer's to all 4 of the above Question's should be Very Helpful to other Copper Forum Member's who are using OMNI Antenna's. And please ONLY list your OWN Personal Problem's / Use / Experience / Result's. Thank's in advance, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

I have thought about trying a Balun on my Imax 2000 because of TVI/RFI issues, but, never did. SO,NOPE- never tried one. I'm interested to hear what people say on this subject. |

Sorry, but we have never had to add a balun to any CB/11 Meter omni antenna that we have used in the last 40+ years. And we have never had any issue's with TVI or RFI with any 11 Meter/CB Omni Antenna we have used be it metal or fibergless. I have alway's went by the old saying: "IF IT AIN'T BROKEN DON'T MESS WITH IT!" Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

i used one with my antron 99 and it had a very positive effect with regard to my TVI issues. it didnt cure them, but it did reduce the TVI enough that the neighbors could live with it. i also tried using one with my top one antenna, and it had absolutely no effect whatsoever. didnt change a thing. just my experience, matt |

I was at 20’ and having all sorts of problems with RF in the shack, a search would note that, along with looking at my Pic page. The coax was also NOT firmly attached to the mast for about 20’ due to me raising and lowering it for inclimate weather. The Balun solved the problem with the most sensitive test equipment in my shop. NOW, the Imax is at 36’, the feed-line is firmly attached all the way up the mast (metal tower) and there is no balun. I do not have any of the previous problems. My problems associated with front end overload even after the balun went away also. I DO KNOW the feed-line was radiating, I DO KNOW the radiation went down (feed-line) with the balun. Pics of mine are in the members pics under my user name, it took a couple hours to make at a VERY leisurely pace, I could crank another out in less than 30 min now. Chad |

I have never use one either, On a vertical antenna I don't see any advantage to a balun/choke unless the CMC are disruptive at the station or equipment. In this situation, if a balun is used and a suitable GP (counterpoise) is also used then something might be gained in efficiency or effectiveness. I don’t know how to prove this however, but it seems to make good sense if everything is working, as it should. |
