As long as it's not motorola trunking the new " REBANDING " should not cause you problems. http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&stid=37 YAHOO has users groups for many scanners and you can get lists and other infomation from them I use a 2053 radio shack but it will soon go dead as our county trunking systen goes to the new format. |

OK cam across a funny signal this week. Driving to work I was playing with my new IC-208H (thanks to a good tax return)and had it in scan mode. I came across a signal on 350.450MHz that has me a little nonplussed. It sounded like two hams chatting about antennas, there was the typical hang after each transmission of a repeater delay. It lasted for over 25 miles (I arrived at work) and 30 minutes. Now it was a continuous signal with no breaks except between overs, so I kind of ruled out two signals mixing and the audio was crisp and clean so I dont think it was a harmonic. What is normally around that frequency? Could this have been a link between two repeaters on a commercial frequency?? I'll do a check when I go back to work on Thursday and see if I can hear it again. O h yes it was while I traveled from Woodburn to Beaverton Oregon along the I5 and 217 corridors. Dogeman thoes are 2 good ones. Thoes who are buying scanners should look at what do they need. There are 3 basic kinds ... DIGITAL AP-25 the MOST costly $400 - 800 bucks TRUNKING costly but not as high $150 - 250. Now if your buying them check to see if they can be REBANDED since many systems will go to this new format .... someday. Just a regular scanner ( most only go to 512 mhz ) as cheep as $79. With this you can hear 10 meter 6 meter 2 meter and 3/4 meter hams as well as fire, police, MURS, FRS/GMRS and a wide range of others. THEY CANNOT BE MODIFIED FOR TRUNKING. IF you don't have a trunking system the $79-129 radio should work just fine. On 6 since 66
