hi all, i own a KL300p 2 pill linear amp. looking at the amp, you can see that the pills are screwed into the heatsink, which, when set right side up, (heatsink on top) the pills are upside down. now i may be mistaken, but i seem to remember from my car stereo days, that an amp should never be run upside down. wouldnt the way this amp sits be considered upside down? would it be more efficient as far as cooling goes to turn the amp upside down so the pills are right side up and the heatsink is on the bottom? (by this i mean that you can read the lables of the pills and the heatsink is under them.) any help or opinions are welcome, matt |

The heatsinks need to point up for convection cooling. But heck some amps point down but those are fan cooled most of the time. Ideally vertical orientation so the fins point up and down is the best for convection cooling. Chad |

My texas star fins point down, have been this way for over a decade and never has failed. |

KV, I don't think it would matter what position the amp is mounted in as long as it gets air flow. |

There ya have it. T does it Yours will probably work too. The Rat lives in a warmer climate too. BTW Rat. I saw a union protest with this large inflatable rat with big red eyes, It looked M-E-A-N. I tried to snap a pic with the cell phone camera and I failed. I now have the good camera in the car in hopes that they will still be on strike Monday Chad |

ummmmm... "warmer climate"? have you ever been to las vegas in the summer? right now it is 99*, and we are still approaching the hottest part of the day. i have to park my car outside, and at 11:45am it was 135* inside the car. trust me, amp cooling is VERY important here. the reason i started noticing this was that it seems as though the cheaper amps have the heatsink upside down, but in the texas star, and all of the big competition amps, they have the heatsink on the bottom with the pills right side up. hmmmm... seems like as good a thing to debate as any! LOL thanks for all the replies guys, matt |
