connex......more to grow with !big amp or small amp down the road. 4800dxl rocks am and ssb great rx. think of it as a s9 with out the top gun stuff. or blue lights .. had one last year for 4 months love the classic look to.. cobra 200 is not to good it is a hit or miss read some post on both radios you will see connex is better. no its not a fancy s9 but IF you buying new speend extra $$$$ on a s9 . IF you are buying used 4800 will just fine thats what i would due if i was looking into that type of radio.. 73s |

I'm a Connex 4800dxle owner. I have never had one single problem with it. Only opened 1 time to adjust dead key. Its reciever is very nice. Its great and LOUD on AM but on SSB its even better. I drive a Texas Star DX 500 with mine and its a powerful force! I can not stress to you enough to buy a 4800 over the Cobra 200 GTL. The qaulity of the 4800 is superb. Do a search for Connex 4800 problems and then do a search for Cobra 200 problems. Then decide which is better.73 |

Thanx guys that was a definite connex answer I was looking for. Dreamed of one for almost 10 years but when the cobra 200gtl came out I was undecieded becuase there are always fixes for bugs. I have looked at thr S9 and the only reason I lost intrest was becuase it had no SWR meter. I know it can be bought later but I am lazy and want convienence in one package. |

Hey Rbeswick62, Uhh I hate to tell you this but the swr meter in my 4800 is to accurate. It gets me in the ballpark but I still needed an external meter. I can't express enough in detail how important it is NOT to go by the internal meter in ANY radio you buy! The 4800 swr meter? CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR! |

O.K. pat now you have me saying to my wife every question S9S9S9S9S9S9. was starting to consider that option think I'll wait a month though. Also getting pretty serious about my ticket been answering the questions on a ham quiz net site with an accuracy of about 78%. Not sure what changes will take place when the change the testing proceedure, but should be easy to adapt to. |

Pat now I'm confused go with a connie or S9S9S9S9... when I read the forums it sounds like you prefer the S9 over most radios. |

i try to answer the question as asked & i STILL get into trouble i'd take kidney stones over the cobra 200gtldx. the connex 4800 was a no brainer. you only asked about those 2. had you added S9....well that would've been a different story. BUT, objectively speaking, the 4800 DOES cover the 12 meter band, well into 24 mHz infact. of course the S9 goes to 33 mHz. other then that....S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9 |

Pat is saying go with the Connex over the Cobra. The 4800 and the S-9 are both good rigs. Whichever you choose will be a good decision. I love SSB and the Connie has proven itself to me. Gonna buy a S-9 soon. Will the S-9 be as good a SSBer as my 4800? Reciever? transmitter? Can't wait to be the judge. For some reason though.... I always crawl back to by beloved 148. |

Well I whent and bought the " S9 " today and assorted other compliments to get it up and running. I my self prefer the D104 lollipop for the house & will use stock mike in the grocery getter. Now if I can find a way to hang my antenna from the stars I will shout at the world once again after 20 years. Ham ticket here I come. Up to 86% on my latest score. Wooo Hoo ! ! |

Hank, I agree, Lots of pride when you have a regular ol cb performing better than an export that costs much more. Wishbone in Tennesee said I owe him a radio cause my 148 blowed up his reciever! |
