Congratulations. As mentioned, don't stop now. Stay in the study/upgrade mode. It really makes it easier. Enjoy what you have earned. Get on the air, make some contacts. Listen to top notch operators and emulate their style. Build some neat Tech antennas. Nothing better than to be able to say, "I built it" when someone compliments you on your signal.

Enjoy amateur radio.

So how easy are the written tests?
I been taking some practice tests on QRZ and seems there is a lot of useless garbage on them.
I think the practice tests they have on there are old.

Crackshot,

If you are taking the Pratice Tests on QRZ then the question's on your written test/exam will be 100% Letter for Letter, Word for Word Exactly as they are in QRZ Practice Test's.

And NO they are not OLD as they are the Exact Question's that are in the question pool's for the class of license you will be taking your test for.

QRZ in the ONLY site that gives you 100% accurate Letter for Letter, Word for Word practice test's with the pratice test question's that will appear on your test.

If the 100% EXACT Question and EXACT Answer is not in the QRZ Pratice Test's then it WILL NOT APPEAR ON YOUR EXAM.

If you can pass the Practice Test's on QRZ then you can pass the written multiple choice test when you go to take your exam.

Hope this help's,

Lon

Crackshot: I've no idea what you're calling useless junk. Each and every question that you'll see on QRZ.COM is of great use.
The 35 question written test will be word for word from the question pool you see on QRZ. Of the 35 questions you must have 26 correct answers to pass the written test., these FCC tests are no joking matter.
Yes, Mrhappy the test is all based on memory, no trick questions or surprises.

Well finding a VE in my area is almost nil.
I would have to travel 50 miles one way to find one.

To conduct a testing there has to be a panel of three, 1 VE coordinator and 2 additional VEs.
The travel distance is not a question, if you want an amateur radio license you'll have to make the trip.

Crackshot: I just researched the ARRL website and you have two testing locations not all that far from Idaho Falls, they are Montpelier and Rupert.
Boise and Sagle also have testing sites. I don't even find Sagle in my atlas.

Not all that far?

Idaho Falls to:

Montpelier = 146 or 292 round trip
Rupert = 122 or 244 round trip
Bosie = 281 or 562 round trip
Sagle = 517 or 1034 round trip

Sure glad I live here in Bloomington, IL.

From house to test site 3.1 or 6.2 miles round trip.

Yeah and with work, the farm and paying 55 bucks for 15 gallons is not an option.
Guess I will have to wait.

Crackshot: May I assume that you'll wait for gas prices to get lower? Those are the only testing sites in Idaho and the locations don't normally change.
