What kind of guy wire should I use?
Would a good quality nylon rope work the best?

I do not recommend nylon rope for a permanent installatioin - it degrades in the sun. Use either a black dacron rope or proper guy wire.

If using the wire guys some people say break it into non-resonant lengths and others say use a continuous piece of wire. In the past I have used both methods and not noticed any real problems with either way. ALthough having said that, I am one that generally recommends using broken guys - but in the long run the choice is yours.

I use that plastic coated wire they sale at Walmart. It can be twisted and is strong. After 2 years they are still good! I used turnbuckles to keep them tight after they stretched. Its not bad multi purpose stuff.73

i have long been a proponent of breaking up the guy wire into on resonant lengths.

i was informed by a mister tech833, that as long as the guy wires are below the feedpoint of the antenna, that the length doesnt matter, and using metal guy wires may actually help if you dont already have a groundplane on your antenna.

if i am mistaken, please correct me before i lock this into the vault.

My father in law has been a ham for years and using 550 cord. Says it works great, will not break and has had it up for 5 years so far in NY.
I am putting up a 3 element beam with an A99 on top of it. I am using 1/8 inch cable right now below the feed point all the way to the spikes in the ground.

If using metal guy wires, make sure they
are grounded like you have them now.
During a lightning strike, some energy will
likely flow down those wires.
Good Luck!
