Hi all. Does anyone here know how many watts the Wilson FGT 5 foot fiberglass antenna can handle? (Not the flex one, but the FGT model, 5 foot). Thanks. |

I own a couple off the Silverloads 5 and 6 foot. In my opinion for one 5 footer I would not go much over 500 watts. I have put 500 through a 5 footer no problem. A little more? maybe but I like to play safe! They rate them higher but for any antenna you should only go half the rating and sometimes less than that. I like knowing that my antenna can handle anything I put to it. If its kilowatts you want then go steel whip or aluminum such as the Predator or Monkey Made. When the steel starts to glow red or your coax starts to smoke you know when to back it down! Ask Pat about has Astatic 3k! |

all antennas shorter than 102" are a height compromise for people that cant put a 102" whip on their vehicle. personally, i HATE shortened fiberglass antennas. i think they are just big RF absorbers. any antenna that tells you that you HAVE to use the length of coax that came with the antenna is not a good design. (firestik) just opinions here folks, matt |
