I have heard that you can convert a regular TV satelitte dish into a Cb antenna. First of all, is this true? Second of all how does a person go about doing this? If anyone has some info on this I'd appreciate your input. Thanks marc/cef613 |

Sniper_62881 To work the dish would have to be at least 36 foot wide and would have the gain of a 2 elm beam. |

I found in a magazine "Handy" a dish shaped tv antenna. Supposed to be HD ready and all that. They claimed it will work for base cb radios, scanners and such! BULL! It is impossible. I doubt you would even be able to recieve a cb signal. I will try to find the ad again or a web address. |

Hotwire ... I worked for Sperry microwave in R&D on MMW radars ( 90-200 GHZ )for 4 years. At 96 GHZ a 6 foot dish has a gain of 60 DBD ( Times X =1,000,000 )so for each watt you put out it looks like 1,000,000 fed to a groundplane. Now you have to realize that at 96 ghz a WAVELENGTH is about .1 INCH and at cb it is about 410 inches..... and the gain of a dish is dependent on how many waves across it is ...... SO a 6 foot dish on 96,000 MHZ is good for 60 DBD to get that kind of gain on CB it would have to be 24,600 FOOT across...... Dishes do not even start to be used under 440 mhz ...... |

Hey Bruce, maybe you could use the dish as a groundplane, but which way up do you use it? |
