Texas Star has this new amp out, 2-2sc2879's into 8-2sc2879's. Can run it with the driver only, the finals only, or the drivers and finals. Anyone see this amp in person, or beter yet, tried one? What kind of numbers are you seeing, or what can be expected. Finally, will this amp be a good combination with my Magnum S9? |

found some answers for you, Capt. yes it will run driver only or 8 only, or as a complete 2 x 8 setup. not a bad setup at all!!! probably gonna draw 165 amps or more, so make sure you can supply sufficient current to it! the S9 & the 2 pill part may give you trouble. if you turn Rf power down to 2 watts or less & mic gain til PEP is less then 20 watts, it MAY sound alright. but no promises. the original cost of my davemade 2 x 8, plus conversion to a 1 x 2 x 8, usable in ANY configuration(1 only, 2 only, 1 x 2, 8 only, 1 x 8, 2 x 8, or 1 x 2 x 8) cost LESS then the 2 x 8 texas star, though i could only find 2 places advertising it & neither had it in stock. also, my davemade will probably do about 60-80% MORE then what the TS will do on 13.8 volts. |

That sounds very interesting. The radio in the truck (and I really, really like it) is the S9. I have an upgraded 200amp alternator, with 2-1100cca batteries (stock setup, 2003 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke). Have 2 optima batteries and cases to install in the tool box if needed, so I think I have the power supply issue covered. Tell me more about the Davemade. Can it be used on ssb as I spend alot of time in that mode? Does it have a recieve pre-amp? Where can I get one of those, set up like that? |

Allthough The Davemades are one of the finer comp amps available, you would be much happier with the Texas star for clarity and sideband usage, the S-9 does propose an overdrive issue using the texas star. You dont want to exceed a 30w pep and a 2w input to that amp or the 667v. If you intend to run greater than a 700w carrier out then it is recommended that you install the TS fan kit in addition to the fan that comes with the unit, if your going to drive it with the S-9 then get the fan kit regardless and run the fans on manual |
