I Have what looks to be a home made Amp.Its the size of a small rollaway chest.About 3ft tall and 1.5ft wide or so.The last owner knew nothing about this amp.So...I would like any info on what this thing might do.How many watts it might take to drive it to the max and how many watts it might put out.I do not want to over drive this thing and blow up the tube.
It has a 3cx1500a7/8877 tube it also has vacume variables for the tune and load it has milliamperes meters that go from 0 to 1 amp for the plate and grid currents.and it has a DC volts meter that idles at 4100 DC volts when turned on.I have put 20 watts drive into this and it dead keys at 580 Watts out and the DC volts Drops to 3650 volts.
Thanks for any help or sugg.

That is a very popular and very exspensive triode tube. Should produce 1.5kw. They cost like a thousand bucks a piece I think, give or take a hundred bucks, regardless if you blow it up your wallet will feel it! Not sure what or how to operate it but I do know they kick some serious mudduck butt! 20 watts might be way to much drive! I probably will never own such a device. I'm sure Pat can steer you in the right direction.

not me 'wire . i never grew up past transistors! & with them, the more the merrier

eimacs are probably around $800 each. the amp & power supply could run from $2-4000 depending on who builds 'em. parts cost for the whole thing could be $1500 or more, depending on transformers & PS parts. a 16 pill base, driver & PS could run about $2500 for 1kw key, 3.5 kw swing.
