Base mic: take off the bottom cover. Use a real fine sandpaper (or some say even just plain paper) and slide back and forth across the contacts. Hand held mic: contact cleaner on/in the slider mechanism is ideal. WD40 works too. |

what exactly is the complaint that you are getting? are they noticing a "pop" when you key or unkey? or is it about the audio quality/level? if its a pop they are hearing, the contacts are not fully disconnected from the receive side when they make contact with the transmit side. if thats the case, the contacts just need to be bent a bit so that they are fully disconnected from one side before making contact with the other. a "break before make" connection. hope this helps, matt |

take off the bottom cover, remove the screws from the PC board, and VERY carefully move it out of the way, you should see a bunch of metal tabs all sandwiched together with plastic in between them. the ends will have a little bump on them, and that is the part that makes contact and can get oxidized or corroded. use ONLY contact cleaner, or may be rubbing alcohol on some fine sandpaper, and drag it through the contacts, being careful not to bend anything. its a slow and tedious job, so be patient, good luck, matt |

On the older G and TUG D104 stands, one way to clean the contacts is to remove the two screws and remove the keying bar and using a good electronics parts spray cleaner, spray down into the hole that the keying bar fits into, next put the bar back on and work the bar a few times to clean the contacts. Personally I take the microphone stand apart and remove the contacts and this serves as a much better way to clean the contacts, it's a slow job taking the stand apart and putting it back together, but the end results are rewarding. Yes coarse sandpaper will, but VERY fine grit paper intended for wet-sanding should be ok. afterwards you will need to reprotect the contacts with Caig Preserv-It or similar. Chad CEF 433 HAM 212 not an ego thing, just keepin' the mods happy

I use a good old USA paper bill of unknown denomination or cheap white note paper and contact cleaner. Works great and does not wear away contacts and no grit from sandpaper gets left in microphone. HARVE UNIT199 CEF210 CVC18 KB0YVK

NO SANDPAPER! you do not want to remove material on the contacts, just polish them! Radio Shack sells a product called "DeoxIT™/ProGold™ Twin Pack" Catalog #: 64-4338 Wet a Q-tip and soak the contact points for 24 hours, then clean with brake cleaner spray from an auto supply house. Use a new, crisp dollar bill and pass through the contacts about 10 times on each one to polish. Clean again with brake cleaner. Apply a small amount of the De-Oxit GOLD on the points and your contacts will be like new, and stay that way! |
