I have a radio that i can set to 1w swinging 35-40 pep. im looking to drive a klv1000p to its full potential, so ineed a driver amp that is built with the above specs in mind, now the magnaforce is ideally designed for this but is a "B" bias, im looking for something cleaner like "AB1" klv tubers are clean but garbage in is garbage out. I have a radio that drives it to its potential "2995dx" but id like to run a different radio once in awhile, does anyone make an AB1 amp that will pep no more than 150w that is designed to handle it like the xforce with little compression? and what lengths of coax would you reccomend between the radio/driver and the driver/1000p, Thanks!!

I don't know what you are running. But if you do a 1 watt key and swing 40 your signal is already garbage. For a base amp I really wouldn't know what driver to recommend. But I use a texas star modulator (small 1 transistor amp) to drive my xforce 400. You could set that up to key 20 watts and swing 100. If you do that you will make that klv scream. I've never used 1 but hear they are nice. Use mini 8 coax, anything but rg58 would be fine. Just remember 1:4 or 1:3 ratio. Set your klv amp to key 250 and it should swing close to 1000. Just try not to let your radio swing that much

madigan, if you're using a magnum radio, you CAN back the mic gain down A LOT to drop swing, both on AM & SSB, before the audio drops out noticeably.

i would almost guarantee any CB amp labeled 'B' is NO DIRTIER then ANY CB amp labeled 'AB1'.

my 'C' davemade, which has received only GOOD audio quality reports & has been heard by 70 CEF members, DX & local, SOUNDS (as well as bleeds & causes TVI from the driveway) NO DIFFERENT then an 'AB1' dx1200 or 'B' mf600. what it looks like on a scope is of little importance. adjusting for max RMS swing, rather then PEP swing helps clean things up...slightly

It's a Phillipines cob 2000 w/mosfets,with adjustable carrier between 1/2w and 10W running on an external PS. Ive owned all classes and seen them all on my Yaesu YO-100, not to mention what the different harmonic levels of the amps can do to my electronics and the ab amps ive run dont bother a thing. it wouldnt be that critical if it was going to be run by itself but driving a tube amp makes a huge difference out of something that seemed minor with out it. ive been driving the klv1000p at 2-10 swinging 40 and have gotten excellent reports, but to reach some of those farther stations im looking for a driver, as much as i like my 2995dx, the receive just doesnt hold a candle to my 2000's receive. Can i do without it? yes. but it would be nice to have handy.

if you're happy with the quality as you currently run it, why not a 3 or 4 element beam? keeps the quality the same & can give you an ERP of 20 or more times what you're putting out. and it may improve your receive as well.

Patzerozero I would certainly welcome that!! however my home is in a community with certain restrictions(height and visibility), if it wasnt, id forget the amp and get the antenna for sure! turning the gain down on the mic is easily done as i dont run it to open as it is, if i do the fan on my KLV will walk all over me :-)

Madigan,

Personnally I would not do it.

Too many chances of something going wrong and then POOF goes the KLV-1000P.

Keep the KL-200 for the radio when mobile and get the KLV-1000 for using the mobile for base use.

That way you can set the Dead Key on the Radio to 2-1/2 watts and it will work with both.
