I am starting this topic to address a Question from Wally38 on his KLV-400 blowing fuses. Question from Wally38, For some reason mine likes to blow fuses if I key down too long. Anyone know why? Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

Wally38, What type of Radio are you using it with? Are you using a Modulated Mic? What is your Dead Key power? What is your Maximum Swing Power? What do you mean by: (if I key down too long.) Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

Using a Texas Ranger 696f. But it also does it with my other radios. I use a power mic I set the deadkey for 100 watts and it swings well over 400 If I key the mic long enough, the amp gets hot which I suppose is normal, but if I speak too long it blows the fuse inside. |

Since you say that your PEP is well over 4 times your carrier power...it is obvious that you are over driving it. Reduce the mic gain to a reasonable level. As for "keying too long"...the duty cycle for the amplifier should be in the operator's manual. |

The amp is really only rated to put out 250W AM, in SSB mode you will be lucky to see 400. The EL519 is in NO WAY designed to produce 200+ watts each. Trying to do so will lead to a very short tube life. Back the "dead key" down to 50W and don't swing over 200, your neighbors will appreciate it as will your valves Chad |

I replaced my tubes with new EL-509 tubes. They want to put out more power it seems. That's when the fuse issue started come to think of it. |

An EL509 is darn near equivalent. Still not CLOSE to a 200W tube Chad |

Chad is correct. Do what he says, back deadkey to 50-60 watts. Come to think of it, I overcouple mine to accomplish this. RM manual is not very good about this. |
