just curious as to how the mod works on the 142gtl??? its final rf stage, including TR41 & TR39, is virtually identical to that of the 148gtl(original, 5 pin mic), at TR36 & TR39. YET, the erf2030 mod has not been proven to work on those 148's... |

georgeODjungle, good work man, keep it coming! someone has to have the brass to try this in an old style MB8719 chassis. (not me!) so did you just follow the instructions for the new 148 and cross ref. the part numbers? pat, how different is the 142 from the 2000 in this respect? matt |

awsome... the 142 is about 45 watt with 8 watt dead key. that's on a dummy load. but the cheepy 510 is about 10 watts more and way louder. yes all the rf stages are are about the same. the royce was the only odd ball so far we modded. 2000gtl trc451 79-892 president washington 19dx 1-641 142gtl 510xl once you figure it out, it's realy easy. play around with tha cap values or use trimmers. have not done a 148 but, that 2000 should be the same as the 148. turned all the way up + bigger regulator. pep on antenna was 70+ on ssb. 60 on am. had to turn it down! dims the lights + way to hot & raspy. should have tried with 12v power. 45 to 50 seems to sound and run all right. also the 510 came back "burning smell" it rosted that last resistor on the rf output next to L4. that 19 should smoke it to but have not heard. just like most t&p, the lower dead key the bigger swing. |

Hi George, I would like to know the instructions for the pro 510xl. I have already done the power mods and everything else but I want to do the ERF2030 change out. What output did you see with that (dk and swing?). I will upgrade the wattage rating of the resistor next to L4 to a higher value. Thanks! |

here's the mod for all radio's i'll give it a way even i have to figure it out the old fashion way. 1)jump the resistor & cap @ the base 2)add trimmer, 500 pf + -, or replace with 1m to cap, before jummper. 3)clip coil @ that junction. 4)clip first cap out of the collector to ground. 5)add pot or 33k +- resistor from emitter to regulated 12v. 6)add erf & 369 repeat for driver, less #3. ta da, presto changeo, big radio. there might be a better way but works for me. kid: the washington, road talker & 2000, dims lights realy bad. power supplys ARE way to week, you NEED to pump it up to. crazy: you won't beleve my any ways. but it turned the pro510xl to be the biggest radio. & i'd just clip that "safty" resistor. |

***** at ******** told me the erf2030's would NOT work with the cobra 2000gtl base, due to the way the final transistor is set up. he said it would take a major rework of that whole circuit, which could then compromise the 'whole reason for its being'. i do NOT know that for fact, however. curious as to what needed to be done to make them work in the 2000gtl & (original style) 148-type radios. |

your post wasn't there prior to my last, george...big change in circuitry, as emitter on final was previously grounded, & now receives voltage. will have to give it a shot |

georgeodjungle. what does step 2 mean? 2)add trimmer, 500 pf + -, or replace with 1m to cap, before jummper. |

pat00: yes you are right i ment -12 not the chassis ground that want you to paybass that diode & resistor. wankle: theres a cap before the resistor that gets jummped, look at c152 on the 148. sorry i can't discribe it to good. i've tried to post circuit: ill try again.. |
