I have the chance to get my hands on a battery charger for a forklift for just getting rid of it. It will run on 240 vollts or 480 volts and I think it will work on 220 volts. Its output is 3 phase, 109 amps, 24 volts. Is this monster worth having? Can I run a big custom type amp with it without a battery or should I look for a battery? Am I wasting my time? Its made by Exide I think. Anyone else ever used one of these for a radio and is it clean power? This thing looks like it could be dangerous to fool with if not knowing what your doing! |

hmmm, does it put out 24 volts at 220 in? ones i'm familiar with run on 440 or even 660, they are BIG! even a comp amp that is capable of running on 24vdc is not long for this world when run hard all the time. i suppose if you were to take the model # & ask the dealer/repair service if the output volts could be easily lowered to make a smaller(volts) charger, they may be able to tell you if the thought has merit. |

Hotwire, I do believe that the voltage may be changed! I would suggest taking it, and if you can't do what you want with it, just put it on an internet auction site it or I know someone in indy that deals 'em, in fact I'll ask him monday what can be done. Find out the info on it, model, serial number, etc. Pat Industrial battery chargers range from 120-440 in usually and 12-48 out. Not to say that others dont exist, but... Thanks for the help via email earlier BTW Georgeodjungle some chargers are cleaner than others an "scr" controlled charger would be pretty clean but I would still suggest a "big" battery for a filter. Well its really old and dirty. Fired it up last night charging a load and the thing is so loud buzzing the noise it makes in a large warehouse would be just ridiculous in a radio room. Pat your right its on 480 and ask the maintenance man and he said 480 is not resiential so I would have to pay to have the service brought in. Have not yet decided what to do as I have second dibs on it. Will be a few weeks untill its replacement is installed and then working out its removal with the company I work for. |

those big gray 6 & 12 cell, 24 & 36 volt batteries....the bigger ones are the counterbalance in the lift equipment & can weigh upwards of 2000lbs, or more! a place around here that uses 'em, has a cabled remote, & the hoist attatchment overhead resembles 'bumper cars', or the electrified amtrak lines. as long as you put the machine in the proper spot, you just push buttons to move the battery, & risk of hernia is greatly reduced sounds, though like you need to get bc over there... |
