Hello Guy's:I need all the help I can get installing a(palomar 450 elite)in to a 98 buick lesabre I think it has a 40amp altenator in it....I have a kl200p in it already, but I'm thinking with this amp I will need to do a little more wiring then what I have now ,but I want to run the 450 with some 8 gauge wire...is that good?also need to know what kind of fuse do I use with it. |

go for at least #6 wire, even #4 maybe, obviously directly to the battery. what's in your amp, 4 x 1446 probably? you should get about 350 watts PEP more or less, which should draw around 40 amps, so, unless the leads out the back of the amp are already fused, you'll need to get a heavy duty fuse holder(HP car stereo type), & start with 40 amp fuse & see how it goes. (you can buy 6 gauge amp wiring kits, ready to go, but fuses may be a bit bigger then what your amp requires, so you'd have to change the fuses). my fathers' '02 buick century has a 78 amp alt, so i'd guess that yours is bigger then 40, especially if it has AC & any power options. that'd be about the smallest alt that would run the car & power the amp well. |

Hey Patzero:As far as the battery I have a dual post top/side post would it be ok to hook the amp to the top post and run the car off the side post? |

that's what those posts are there for!!! us radio nuts! you may also want to get an optima-type battery & 1 of those plastic marine battery boxes, mount the battery right next to the amp, a real short piece of #6 or #4 from amp to optima side mount, then the long piece back to the extra posts on the battery under the hood. with the car running, you could probably keep the mic keyed w/amp full power all day long before seeing any voltage drop |

Mrgoody, Check your Local Auto Parts stores and one of them should carry it or try a GOOGLE search for Optima Batteries. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |
