I have a question about Amps. As far as what's on the market now, in your opinion what amp has the best filtering (RF). I've installed 4 different types in my work truck (semi). Even w/ top dollar coax, the best possible grounds, and keeping coax as far from the truck's elec system, I've managed to fry the truck's computer (brain) 4 times. I have a good match (real close to 1.4:1). |

HEY MONSTER,this is big bob.If you have a fiberglass body there's not much you can do,it's rf from the antennas that's killing your computer. You need to shield the comp. by enclosing it in metal such as several wraps of aluminum foil,if it's plastic bodied, then run a heavy ground strap from the foil.If it's metal bodied, using a volt meter see if it's body carries a + voltage,if it doesn't check for a - voltage by reversing leads,if it reads 0 both ways then connect ground strap direct to batt. ground. Now if you get voltage +or- then you've got one more option, spring loaded 2' whips on either side of the trailer half way back,if need be you can fabricate your own mounts,if none of these are viable then you are s.o.l. Hey Bob, you're alright. You don't have to make apologies for stating your case. You are a big guy, stop that. Just don't step on my toes. I think I will have your report on the SS/FG whips in a few days. You were right. Marconi |
