Many of my driver budies and I are having problems with the tiny spring that returns the switch when you release the key on Astatic 636L mics. It seems the spring metal does not have memory and they break in half.I contacted Astatic and they said I would have to buy a complete switch kit...The switch is good. All I need is the 5¢ spring. Yeah yeah I know its has a warantee but who has the time to travel to the cb shop where we bought the mic or even have to time to pack it up and ship it.. We still have to buy another mic to use while the problem mic is out... Temporarily I cut and used a piece of spring from a ball point pen! It works but not too well.. ANY HELP? All I need are some springs! |

I haven't had one break but I did notice the spring is very stiff. Takes a strong thumb for long keydowns. |

A stiff spring is good. It ensures the mic key does not stay open. Bottom line...WHERE CAN I GET JUST THE SPRINGS? |

Man if you lived over by me I would just give you one of my old junker Astatics for the spring. Try this, go to an auto parts store. They should have odds and ends springs made for carberators. Just a thought. Or try a cb shop, maybe they have some mic parts laying around. Really a pain what you have to go through to assemble the switch. They telling you that you need a switch because to replace the spring you take the chance of damage to the switch opening it up. Just remember not to press the tabs to tight on the switch when you reassemble it or it will lock up. |

The switch is a self contained unit..... there's no need to fuss with it... The spring fits at the end of the switch, between the switch and the mic housing..It's easy to change the spring... I just cant get any... LOL |

Cowboy Bob, if you have any old carburators lay'n around, take em apart and see what springs they have inside. Maybe one of them would work. There's got to be someplace to get a spring that would work. You may have to take a few things apart to find one. What are the spring dimensions? (length, diameter) Someone on here may have one, heck, I might have one that would work lay'n around somewhere or I may run across one at any time, ya never know. |

You must have a really old desighn. All my Astatics 636L's have the spring inside the switch container and not in between the mic housing and the switch. It would be impossible for me to replace the spring with out taking it apart.Oh well good luck with yours. 73 |

I stand corrected.. I should have said the spring is between the switch and the SWITCH housing, not the mic housing. The springs I need are the diameter of a ball point pen spring and about ¼" long, but it has to be stiff to return the key hard enough not to be partially open. |

I recently needed a small spring (about 1/2 inch long 1/4 in diameter) and after looking everywhere I found a variety of them in the faucet section of home depot. Delta uses several sized springs for thier faucets and kits are available from 79 cents to $2. Mine contained 2 springs and a few other little doo dads for $1.29. |
