I have a cobra 148 and a bc350 in the mobile. On the trunk is a silverload and a mobile scanner antenna about 2 feet apart. After removing the scanner to use in the house the cb in the car went CRAZY! SWR went through the roof, audio was terrible and lots of sqeal and worse with amp on I got the worst RF bite I ever had! A lightbulb went off in my head to remove the scanner antenna and feedline. Problem gone. My question is What the heck happened? When I had the scanner hooked up it never caused trouble! How do I prevent this if I wanna put back the antenna? 73 Wire |

build or buy a shielded termenation cap to screw the unused scanner coax into....what happend was RF was being picked up at the scanner antennaand ridding the feedline to the un-termenadted end and going "feild-day" in your cab....thus the RF bite, as for the swr, im assuming the RF in the cab also caused this, not as acctually SW, but just the RF playing havoc on your meter |

Goat your right about havoc on the meter! I thought it was broke for a minute. I rolled up the feedline and tucked it away in the trunk. When I find something to plug the hole in my trunk lid I can take it out. Any ideals what I can use to plug a 3\8 inch hole? |

If you can't find a rubber plug at an auto parts store, use a bolt, some metal fender washers and some rubber washers. Another possibility, just get some electrical tape in a similar color and tape it from the inside. Add a small circle of tape over the sticky part of the tape on the outside. |
