I am installing this in a Uniden PC-76 (Phillipine) Radio. The manual says wire both sheild wires to the ground connection on the mic connector in the radio. Would this be No 1 pin? Also where would be the best voltage source to power it on this Radio?

yes, but don't try to cram all that wire onto that 1 little pin, just solder to closest ground point on board underneath socket, or a tuning can nearby.
do you need 12 volts or 8-10 as is usually suggested? it also should be powered ONLY while radio is in XMIT mode. you'll probably need a voltmeter to poke around & find it(unless you have a service manual around). if you need 10 or less, but can only find 12 volts while in XMIT, just add a 1/2 watt 1k resistor in series. |

Do you mean solder to the board attached to the mic socket or just between mic socket and chassis? If any tuning can, can be used for ground I will probably just try that.
As for the power it says to use 8 to 18 volts. But why should it be powered only in XMIT mode?

The last one I put in, I got the voltege from the power plug on the back of the radio. The board will draw power constantly but it was never enough to drain my battery. The instructions said to get power from a source that is only hot when the radio is on, BUT WHEN DO I EVER FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS |

ANY tuning can is fine, but you're looking for anything that is connected to the dc ground at rear of radio. if the little board at socket has room, that's OK too.
as 'raker says, you'd prefer not to be running voltage through it 24/7, & it's highly unlikely anything will ever burn out on the board, so, poke around a bit 1st & see if you can locate a point with voltage under xmit only. otherwise.... |

Well i got it all wired up and all i got was a squealing radio. I removed the audio wire (#2 on the mic socket board) soildered the audio in wire to this connection, then soildered the wire i removed from the mic socket to the audio out wire to the echo board. Grounded both sheild wires from the board to a can , the wired the hot wire to the posotive connector in the back of the radio. Would this be correct? So i unhooked everything and took it to a Radio Shop out on the road this week. He wired everything back up and it was still squealing, so he said it was a bad board. Just want to make sure i am not the one that turned it in to a bad board. So i am waiting on the new board to arrive to give it another try.

Come on Guys , Help me out here. I tryed yet another board i had in an old Cobra 29. I think this one is an LT-2 Board, Same results nothing but a squealing Radio. What am i doing wrong? |

I have heard that if the board is not grounded well it will squeal when it is on, but I do not know for sure. Are you sure you have audio in and audio out wires in the right place. The audio wires (on the board) have a 2 wires each, an audio wire and a shield. The first one I put in, I got the shield and audio wire mixed up. On the astatic board there is a pad of solder right next to the brackets that hold the board to the radio. Solder a wire to this pad and and solder the other end to a good chassis ground on the radio. |

does it instantly squeal when you key up, no matter where mic gain set & no audio from voice? that would say it's connected to wrong pin. |

OK, Still dealing with this thing, Got another new board in this week. I tryed it and got the same results. But this morning i was trying different things and discovered when the board is not mounted to the chassis it dont squeal, As soon as you touch it with the chassis it squeals. i tryed removing the ground wire from the can i had it grounded to but nothing changed. I am going to run a ground wire from the pad to chassis like Moonraker suggested and see what happens. Sorry for the long wait between post but i am on the road thru the week,

try this,
just did the same thing and this worked for me. go off the mic gain and add the echo. make sure you are putting it in the right order. it will work the other a little but switch around. |
