Ok Copper Forum Members I need your feedback on this radio. Has anyone owned one or using one of these radios presently? If so what do/did you Like and Dislike about it? Have you had or did you do the Wideband Modification? Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

I have a Kenwood TS-440 and it has never failed in over 15 years. As for performance of the newer radios, you will quickly be disappointed with the AM performance. They are designed for SSB, not AM. The AM mode is an afterthought. They just add a carrier to one of the sidebands and call it AM, but it is not true AM and it sounds bad. You will get comments from people like 'You are off frequency' and such. No matter where you set the carrier, you can't make them sound good. The TS-50 is no exception, unfortunately. If you only want a good SSB rig, it will serve you well. If you plan on using it on AM, you will cuss at it. |

ts-50 is a good radio am is very good as long as you get the 6khz filter for it the only thing there is to many mods for it when they have alot of mods. to them it usually means alot of flaws so take it for what its worth once all the mods. are done you have a pretty good radio |

A lot of available 'mods' does not always mean a poorly designed radio, sometimes it means a very popular radio that lots of people spend a lot of time playing with. |

Using that logic, I guess the 148/Grant is the worst radio ever made! |

I have owned the TS-50 quite awhile and used it mostly on SSB.I bought it at a hamfest for $300,it was a mobile rig and it shows it cosmetically but works 100%.The only thing I don't care for is the menu system. The menu assigns a number to each option. When I have to change menu options I don't use often I need to dig out the manual to find the menu number. An alpha-numeric display would make things easier. |
