ok, i have t radios that are displaying the same symptoms, (rci 2950,& dx 949) both were peaked and tuned and working great, then all of a sudden they quit transmitting, the finals have been replaced and also the drivers, on AM i get a very low carrier with no audio, no power showing on a watt meter but signal enough to hear it on a bench radio, and on sideband there is audio, but no signal. i have replaced finnals, drivers, audio chips, IF mixers, and IC 7 on both, with no results. Any sugestions?

WOW 1 at a time, the galaxy 1st. DOES it RECEIVE normally? WHY was EVERYTHING replaced-a prior problem? or to attempt to fix the current problem? prior to the problems, WHAT was it peaked to, output-wise, carrier & PEP? is it flat out NO audio AM & SSB, or just VERY LOW? what about wattage output on the LOWEST scale-ZERO, NO MOVEMENT AT ALL, or like 1/4 watt? was anything done to it OTHER then turning 'up' the ALC & AM POWER controls? what are the SWR's of the antenna being used? did both radios die immediately 1 after the other? were they being used on the same antenna? |

ok, for the details starting with the 2950: i had 2 that were basically parts radios, got one to work with parts from both. it worked great for about 3 months with about 1.7 swr. after i got it to work i peaked it to about 17 watts AM peak, and 35 watts SSB peak, i put an amp in line with it, and the amp was bad, i took the amp out of line and the radio only put out maybe 10 watts AM & SSB PEP, for about 2 key ups long enough to check my match! then nothing! now i have it open on the bench, and on AM it has no wattage or FWD on the match meter whats so ever, but using a bench radio i do hear it key but i dont hear any modulation. and on side band i hear modulation and the rodger beep with some negligable signal. i poke around on the board with a tunning screwdriver near the driver and the signal goes up on the radio im recievine on and it goes way up when i tuch the leg on tr50 as for the galaxy the same basic thing happened about 1 month ago and i thought it was because of a bad jumper and i left it at that. i really do think its some thing simple but its eluding me........please help! |

I had this problem with A rci2950 and A galaxy dx99v. And in both it was A lose ring around the mic socket under the covers. |
