I have a Palomar 450HD its only 4 months old.when I turn it on everything lights up and it goes on but when I talk with the amp on my signal is lower then it would be with the amp off.I took the cover off and i dont see anything burnt or blown.why would the amp be doing this? |

Have you put that amp on a meter to see if it is actually putting out? |

Finals in radio gone bad? VSWR has went high? Bad antenna? Bad pill in the amp? Like Crackshot stated...I would check with a watt meter VSWR meter and also check to see if its getting or pulling enough amperage. good luck |

1st check for abnormally sky-high SWR which may prevent amp from 'energizing'. 2nd, not sure what the inside of the PAL looks like, but if the keying transistor burned, it will not throw the relay, & you are FORCING the RF from the radio through the amp the hard way. so whatever bit of your radios' 4 watts is getting through is why you may be seeing less then 4 watts on a wattmeter. |

Sounds like 1 or more bad pills. check to see if they get warm when you key. It is possible that a trace or part between the input and pa stage went but usually its the pills. A receive amp relay sticking could also do that too. As for the main relay,it is normally in the bypass mode so if it wasn't keying it should bypass and you'd have the same output on or off.I had a pal250hd with the sticking receive relay, when I tapped on it,it released and output was restored. |

I'm sure this has been fixed by now, but here's my 2cents worth. I got one of these units brand new and when hooking it up, when the positive cable was hooked up, the capacitor inside the amp popped. Replaced the cap and all was fine. Just one of those days i guess. I've had a few of these amps and thats the only one that ever did that. |
