hello, just got a magnum s6 over the holidays and like to know why this radio picks up less static then other radio's i have had, such as galaxy 77hml,45mp,919 and uniden pc78xlt. the antenna is still the same, franics 6ft fiberglass whip. i like the s-6 ver well, but just curious as to the lack of "static, and distant stations". the noise blanker works well also at keeping vehicle noise down.thanks for your comments..! happy new year! |

Midwess How are you measuring this ? "S" meters mean nothing and " BY EAR " is almost useless too. Did you use a rf generator or how? |

I think the same thing with my S9 vs the Cobra 29. I get a lot of noise with the Cobra and can barely hear quieter stations. When the S9 was in the Jeep, and is going back in because of this problem, it had less noise and I could here quieter stations much better. Thar cobra picks up all kind of noise. I think the S9 is just better in all aspects, I was going to use the S9 as my base radio, but I can't take that cobra anymore. Wildrat |

Hello......well to answe your question, I have many different radio's and I am comparing the typical recv with an Icom 706, and other radios...The noise level by listening to the S6- and weaker signals sounds like a poor short lenght antenna is being used, but am u sing a Fancis 7ft fiberglass whip. Also sounds like on the S6 that the ground on the antenna is not being used, this vertually no static and squelch is almost not needed. I am using again what I am strickly hearing, and what am hearing is less static thus thinking it is less sensitive. NO rf generators injected just side by side comparison with an Icom 706 Yaesu FT897 Kenwood TS2000. I have been doing radio for over 25 yrs and when I hear the lack of static/noise I associate it with poor recv sensitivity and selectivty. Anyone else having similar results with a S6? Thanks |

lack of noise can be considered poor receive sensitivity if the radio you're comparing it to has tons of stations blasting in on it while yours hears nothing. a good receiver with a lack of noise, like on the S9 means i can hear things that are lost in the SHHHHHHHHH whirring white noise of other NAMELESS radios. it hears nearly as well as my ic735 on SSB & outhears EVERYTHING except maybe my ar3500 on AM. the ONLY quieter CB i have ever heard-the receiver is DEAD SILENT almost to the point where you wanna check for an antenna/is the radio on?-is my ar3500....coincidence??? from my base, 35 miles away, i can listen to vanillagorilla talking on AM & his readability(NOT NECCESSARILY S-UNITS, but ability to clearly copy)is BEST on my S9. on AM, 75+ miles to NJ, the S9 HEARS things a grant LT cannot make out, and on SSB can copy most everything the 735 does. |

to me in my most humble opinion, seems as if the magnum radios have better noise rejection thats been not avaible over the years??? like the old double ss collins, way back then alot of people thought they were no good because of the noise rejection they had!! what a pity?? lol thehobo 274150 am monitor ch. |
