Grasshopper, John is right, sometimes it could be the mic. I have a 4800dxl also. Fresh from the factory I let NOBODY tinker with it. I turned down the deadkey. I use an Astatic 636 noise canceling mic and sounds great with my voice. Not a big echo fan but I have the echo controls both set just below 9 0 clock for barely noticable echo. One more thing Grasshopper. Be sure to get an expierenced person to give a radio check. Just any joe blow on channel 19 is not good enough. A lot of people do not know what a radio should sound like or not sound like. I bet you have had good and bad checks. Also if your using an astatic or similar be sure to hold the mic touching your lip while you talk. |

Most exports come with absolutely unimpressive sounding stock mikes. When I got my 4800, the first thing I did was put on a D104. |
