this is a good topic and should get good feedback.i got a cobra 26(not 25 it has a face like a galaxy)i brought a new power mic for it.the reports i got was that it was alright, but the stock mic sound louder and had more drive.(go figure)explain please.and is some top of the line stock mic's like astatic for one,are louder than some power mic's.and what is the best power hand mic(and i don't mean with the toys on them)and what is the best base mic(on the market)and what is your feeling on the best non-power mic (toys on a mic don't make it a good or louder mic) 505 |

It depends entirely on how your voice interacts with the microphone's element. The amplifier doesn't make it any louder unless your radio is more than 30 years old or has a clipped limiter, and even then stock microphones have more than enough output to fully modulate radios. I personally prefer electret elements for their flat voice response, but some folks prefer the high cut response of a D104. |

maybe....maybe not. sometimes the change in the sound of your voice is the benefit you really are looking to acquire, & didn't even know it til it happened. other times, WHATEVER mic you are currently using may 'just not be right', whether due to age, damage, etc. |

Yes and no. Amplification means nothing, it's all about the voice response of the element, and most dynamic elements sound good if used properly. Some folks have a very bassy or a high pitched voice, and a different microphone may help them sound better over the radio. |

Wheelco505, You may be overloading the audio circuit in the radio by having the Power Mic adjusted too high. What percent of modulation do you have or show when saying FOURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR when using your normal a normal voice into the mic on a Modulation Meter? 90% of all power mic problems I have seen over the years is from improper use/adjustments when using one. Try adjusting the Mic and/or radio until you see about 90%~95% modulation and the it should only reach a peak of 100% modulation. Anything over 100% modulation is distortation and can make any mic/radio sound bad. Any power mic can generally work well with any radio if both are properly set up to work with each other. And NOT all power mics will work well with everyones Voice or Radio. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
