Bronzepony The SKYLAB is the same as a starduster. REAL gain over a isotropic is about 3 db and about equal to a 1/2 wave dipole. I cut one down for 52.525 MHZ ( FM ) and it worked VERY WELL. I also have a TOP-ONE same as astroplane again works just fine mine was disrtoyed by the hurricane in 2004 which produced 100 mph winds here. Bruce |

Maco 5/8 will outperform Top One or Skylab. Maco has a more narrow bandwidth than a Top One though. And if you live in a place that has severe winters and high winds, Top One would be the best choice of the antennas you mentioned. JIM/PA/CEF 375 |

Star Duster is a diskcone antenna look at it then look up diskcones on line you'll see they do have a wide bandwidth if you need that. |

Both Starduster and Astroplane has wide bandwidth. Height is not a factor with Astroplane, either. It can work wonders 10 ft off the ground. few people seem to believe this. It's always, "I;m going 40 ft in the air." Try that sucker at 10 ft to ring. Mikefromms |

But, who would want to run a antenna only 10 ft off ground? Unless that was there only choice for installation or on a mountain. Alittle extra height is better if possible. I mounted a Top one in my yard at 10ft. Installed it on the side of my house at 30ft to ring. Major difference! I live in a hole with mountains and other houses and buildings around me. So, I feel it depends on your location.
