Well I bit the bullet and sat for my Technician's license on Saturday. I passed the exam. I have to admit that the test was not that hard!!! or is it because I studied for the exam. Anyway I am a Technician now. I am waiting on my assigned call sign from the FCC... Can anyone recommend a good Mobile type all band rig, and also a good hand held radio??? Cornbrown. |

Congratulations! I hope you will explore all that Amateur Radio has to offer! Often, new people are not sure how to start or introduce themselves to others on the air. One of the best ways is to simply listen to the traffic on the air. Talk like you would on the phone. You will soon sound like you have *always* been there! I hope you fully enjoy your new radio hobby. 73 |

congradulations...now go for the GENERAL & the EXTRA class tests....they are not " that " hard...( I passed them ). You can still use your cb stuff ( and a lot of amateurs still talk on cb but wont just tell just any one ...gee wonder why ? ) Hey, if a 40 - 50 year old bald white man from Alabama in the year 2003 & 2004 can pass his general & extra class amateur license,.....no reason that YOU ( and all the others reading this ) cant do it....like yoou said " once you pass the test, it doesnt seem so hard to do " . Plus on hf in the amateur bands, we already have LID operators who are general & advbanced and extra class, so there goes that insult. Just remember not to use your cb handle on the amateur bands, or your amateur call sign on the cb channels and no one but YOU will ever know the difference. 73 kd4amg ( ai4ep ) Robert

I understand that most of you look on QRZ.com for your new license but did you know that it will show up the day before it does on QRZ at: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp I have surprised many people with knowing their call sign before they see it on QRZ. As soon as you know your new callsign, you can start talking. Just change from check by callsign to check by name. Put your last name in and scroll down till you see it. Marty KG6QKJ |

need some conditions to test the 551d, it does xmit though, just not sure what it sounds like! any chance of a beam won't be til '07, & i think your property size rivals mine, & your neighbors are just as understanding as mine, so, 4 elements on 6m will be my limit. for now, it's the SQ50. i've got a 2nd SQ50, wanna put it on a removable mount for my trucks trailer hitch, then i'll be able to try the sunday net mobile on 6 too |

the jekkyl & hyde thing works for me, chad. . what i do on 11 meters doesn't neccessarily equate to 6 meters, except for talking DX maybe. if the 'ham police' would realize that, this would be a better radio world. do know of a local, world famous ham with a 4cx15000a 6 meter amplifier he built. i find it hard to believe he stops it at 1500 watts. no, it isn't me. |
