Keep your AM carrier at no higher than 25 watts. I also recommend the Heil HC4 mic element for the yaesu and any other ham radio used on AM that come with dynamic mics. Or an equalizer that is set to accentuate the upper mid frequencies in your voice. Avoid too much bass response. Don't feel bad, most modern ham rigs sound like crapola on AM.( really dull ) They have no PUNCH in the AM modulation. And most ham radio noise blankers are not nearly as good as one you would find on a CB. |

I used to have an ft 100d, my first ham radio in fact. I bought a ft 920 and compared, the ft 100d sounded noisy and terrible in comparison. I then later tried a ic 746 pro. It was a huge improvement, mainly in noise and qrm. Point of my rambling? Try other radios and give them a shot. |
