Seems my present radio wants to SQUEAL every time I key up. Doesn't matter if the mic gain is turned all the way down or not. I would like some very serious pro's and cons' and input from you folks on a good solid mobile. I must admit I do like Talk Back. Thinking of the following: Magnum S-9 Cobra 200GTL Galaxy 95T Any others I should look at? I have a Boomer 600 running with the present radio and understand I may not be able to use it with the new radio. Please serious responses only as I am aware of likes and dislikes. Looking for something SOLID & RELIABLE. Tim CEF-634 |

Sinker, does your old radio squeal with coax hooked straight up to it, without anything else in line with radio? I just purchased a brand new DM-452 mic and it squealed. A wire was loose on the mic element. Fixed and it works great. Check for any wires loose in the mic or connector. Good luck with getting new radios! I just got a Texas Ranger TR-966 mobile which i like very much. I use a KL Amp on it. Once again: good luck with whatever you decide to get.... JIM/ PA/ CEF 375 |

Aside from a mobile what are you looking for as far as features? Almost anything can be made to talkback. Freeband capabilities? SSB? Option to run your boomer? Out of the box "Do it ALL!"? If Talkback really floats your boat you'll love Magnums AMT..whereas the 95T you'll have it only with the non-adjustable echo turned on...thats WITHOUT modding anyway...and NO boomer I thought you have a Galaxy99? Not intersted anymore? Hmmmmm..good talkers I understand and reature rich. But I understand making excuses to buy more is ones right as a Cber I wanna tell you to find a nice clean user friendly GrantXL ,148GTL or 296 and do an Expo kit (if needed) and run your boomer for the best performance...but I think you want NEW. Good luck and happy shopping! Hank |

S999999999999999999999! is in my Jeep, and I will use my SuperStar 3900 export for my base, and use the Cobra 2010 for the weather alert. I was out in the Jeep going to the store and was DXing with a guy in New Mexico. Wildrat CEf674 |

Have you tried getting rid of the talkback? That's got to be the biggest reason for squeal. What changed recently? |

I think the Cobra 200GTL for the Family Van - don't have to run an amp and really only have room for the radio anyway. Truck, well seriously leaning toward the S-9 but then am looking at some serious coin for an amp that will work well with it. I am often out in the middle of no where with this vehicle and want to push power if need be for some help. Talked to a guy today who had the 95T sounded very good, crystal clear and loud. Said he has it set to Dead Key 1 watt but it swings like well over 45 - and can push 195 watts if he wants, didn't see so don't know but that could cause problems with an amp I think. What to do, What to do - hmmmmm. Help me out here guys. Tim CEF-634 |

On my S9 I have the all so great top gun modulator turned off, my rf power turned all the way down, when I key if there is no noise it barely moves the needle but then it just starts to swinging with that TS DX500. Everyone likes it better that way than when that top gun modulator is on. Wildrat CEF674 |

Hollowpoint the only thing that changed was a very rough 4x4 hunting trip, nothing else. Patzero, would you mind telling me what you are running in your mobile as last week you sounded oh so good. Maybe I can swing something like you have - I assume an S-9 put what kind box you using??? |

So before the trip feedback wasn't a problem but now it is? Have you checked the antenna and it's mount? My brother must have broken a Silverload every deer season until I convinced him that he needed to use a spring to mount it. Since then it's worked for several seasons. |

check my pics thread...all in all, it's NOT that impressive . whereas many approach the subject as 'more power=more get out', i approach it as 'less signal loss=more get out'. a very inefficient 2000 watt amp is...not gonna get out as well as a smaller one that gets it ALL out. |

Sinker, To many watts, even swinging watts will kill a good amp./ I suggest you get a radio that can be turned down to 2-3 deadkey watts and not swinging enough to ruin an amp. Then, put a big amp behind it and it should last a long time. Good Luck with whatever you do... JIM/PA/CEF 375 |

Sinker Sir..you'd love a blue face Delta Force if the S9 would have too much swing for your amp...you'd have it ALL plus the scan feature...kewl No modulator feature to worry yourself with and you WILL be just as loud! Trust me on that! It's got some features the S9 has, some it doesn't and some visa-versa but for $100 less...? Lets see.. Double barrel mic..6pin magnum on left and 4pin Cobra on right AMT-all mode talkback (AM,FM,USB,LSB) Dual control Echo (if your into that) Yea..roger beep too Scan feature which is easy to use and spoils you fast! 5 channel memory presets...like the stereo in your rig and just as easy to use...again..spoil you fast! Although the clafifier is locked you can either unlock it if you don't mind getting into it OR simply push the "STEP" button and tune in 1k,10k or 100k increments! NOTE: Freq display is just that..a display to let you know what channel you are on..it IS NOT a counter that will show you drifting. It will ofcourse change if you tune with "step" button. This can also be changed to channel readout (1-40)via the "Func" button on the front. Variable pwr: as mentioned above MEGA band coverage: again..if your into that YOU GOT IT with a simple push of a button! More than you will use..trust me. There is more but these are some that stand out to me...oh yea..Copper sells them. Don't get me wrong..the S9 IS the flagship model but the Delta WILL NOT dissapoint! Get one before they are gone! I got one to replace the S9 I sold (to a 95T owner that liked the way it sounded)and am STILL grinning ear to ear with the replacement. I DK from 5 to 12 and swing to an EASY 40+ if needed with the stock supplied power mic (with up/down buttons) thats powered through the radio (no battery). Of course any and all of this wattage is tunable to your liking. Then again you could wait for the 175w S9 to show up! Damn MAGNUM for SO many great options! Oooooh! Shopping is FUN! Hank~...BTW its only right to buy a Magnum Radio for a Magnum Powered Dodge |

Pat, I think better describes the owner of a Cobra 200 GTL that paid $200 for it. But I guess will have to do. I could give everyone a very good description of the Cobra 200, but I don't think they allow those words on the forum. |

I run a ranger 6900f150 set to dead key at 1 1/2 watt that drives a ts667v that i run on low, super loud modulation,no problem talking skip. Been running for almost 3 years now. Radio has everything, that i want. I tried magnum 257 but no comparison to the ranger. Also tried galaxy 99v was okay, but still couldnt compare to ranger. |

Uncle Hanks DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS Correction on the Delta Force stock Power mic! I stated above: " the stock supplied power mic (with up/down buttons) thats powered through the radio (no battery)". This was my understanding... Had mine apart today to change the stock cord to a higher quality flexible version and saw NO indication that this was in fact an internally adjustable power mic....which begs the question HOW IS THIS MIC SO DARN LOUD!? If I were to plug in my D104M6C to the other 4 pin Port (love that option) I would have to turn it up to "SEVEN" to get near the same results as the stocker and Yes it has a new battery in it . Some things I just don't understand! IN FACT with the D104 turned that far up you can only imagine the amount of backround noise..not so with the stocker....GO figure! Hank |

Road Warrior I believe they are 40 watts, I can't remember. I have the modulator off, rf power turned nearly all the way down , using a d104 mobile (B) mic swinging into the Texas Star DX500 with the Wilson Silver load. When my wife recovers from my last couple of months of spending on radio stuff I might try that Predator 10K with the 27 inch shaft to get it above the top on the Jeep. I get nothing but good comments on this radio. I don't know why it would be any higher maintenance than any other radio. It's built by the same hands as most all the other ones. Wildrat CEF674 |

I can't afford it right now but should be able to soon. I do have a few concerns about the 175 watt version though. 1) COST - I mean the standard S-9 is pricey already 2) HEAT - I hear that the Galaxy 95T gets REAL hot and we know heat is our enemy 3) 175 WATTS - Not needed all the time and again I have a local with a 95T who wishes he could turn his down 4) BRAND NEW PRODUCT - Often times it takes a few go rounds to work out the bugs, not sure I want to be paying for the fixes 5) TRIED & TRUE - The S-9 now seems to be tried and true. NOW - Don't get me wrong the idea of the 175 watt version is appealing. I figure it will be pricey though, so much so that I can sell my DX99V radios and amps (600 & 200) and get a regular S-9 with an amp that will do plenty more than the 175 watt version. If all pans out with the 175 watt version then I may get one for the VAN. Tim CEF-634 |

I don't think you will have a problem with the tried and true part, it's just bigger transistors and supporting circuitry. If it doesn't want to stay cool, or you feel it has a heat problem put a fan on it. All electronic circuits work better when they are cool. Just like a cpu in a computer, if you can keep it cool you can get more out of it. COST is something- The radio is pretty pricey. You can always turn the power down on the radio using the RF Power control on the front panel. Wildrat CEF674 |

AM conditions on the net STUNK today, i heard you a couple times, sinker, but couldn't get back from the weak base, even tried the AR3500 to no avail. did get back to 476 & 808, though...anyways, fired up the S9 @ 40 watts PEP & got back to 849 in pueblo colorado on LSB13, & heard another couple people calling me, but conditions are not good. made a handful of contacts on LSB38 & 515-535-555 with the S9. no spectacular 30 over 9 signal reports, but good solid contacts across the western 2/3 of US & mexico as well. no amplifier at base & maco v5/8 is currently back down to 20' to the feedpoint, as we await building permits...either another bedroom or a radio room, can't remember which.... |

Hey Patzerozero no need to worry. The fact that you are calling it a Radio Room and your wife is calling it a Bedroom is only a matter of the differences in dialect between the two of you. It's all the same same so no big deal. My wife and I have the same problem with such things. Heheehe. |

My bedroom is 550 sq.ft. I am in a corner, not only is it the radio corner, it's also the computer corner. When I'm on the radio at night I have to wear headphones so I don't disturb the Bat. I have rearranged my corner also, now she has to look for me.Oh don't worry Bat is my term of endearment for my wife, just like when she says "You Rat". Hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow the radio part of the corner will look likes for radio and not someplace to put things I might need one day. Well we'll see ya'll later. Wildrat CEF674 |

Don't listen to all the anti-Galaxy DX95T talk. It has adjustable power if you need to turn it down. I find no need for a preamp with it in my mobile and I can talk to whoever I hear. I don't need an exteral amp. It has a big fat s-unit meter you can read from the back seat and it is just plain loud. Recently, I talked from Holly Springs, Ms. to a friend on an Antron 99 in Booneville, Ms with the 95T and Roadmaster Z-180. Stopped and put Wilson 1000 on it and did the same. The radio is just as good as it gets in CB radio mobiles. Now, having said that, if you just don't like galaxy, wait for the high powered S-9. Should be very similar and perhaps have better ears. I second the comment about the Top Gun Modulator, people seem to like my Omega Force running the regular way with watts turned up and mic gain backed down somewhat. Whatever you choice, any of these radios will give you great service. Exception: I really don't know about the Cobra GTL 200. I've head about one company who did not like the 200 but elected to buy the 150 for all of their company vehicles. They were sold on the 150 but not so impressed with the 200. I guess the only way to really find out is to do your searches here on copper and visit radio shops. Also, talk to people who have owned this 200 for a few month (let the new wear off) and see how it compares to the old standards like the Lincoln, S-9, Ranger, etc. Hope this helps, Mikefromms |
