ITEM WAS PURCHASED NEW-BUT WAS NEVER RIGHT! (2)X2SC2290 DRIVING (4) 2SC2290 TRANSISTORS WILL DO: 500 WATTS WILL DO: BURN A RESISTOR IN VOLTAGE NETWORK WILL THEN DO: 100 WATTS REPLACE RESISTOR, THEN WILL DO 500 WATTS AGAIN HAD A LOCAL TECH LOOK AT, SAID TRANSISTORS WERE FINE. HE HAD UNIT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO FIGURING OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. SO, ANY IDEA'S OUT THERE? THANKS...:-/ |

put a higher wattage resistor in it and see what happens. Wildrat CEF674 |

(2) 2290'S DRIVING (4) 2290'S? Are you sure? 2SC2290's are 80 watt transistors. If the final 4 transistors are 2290's, 320 watts is it. If the final 4 transistors were 2sc2879's, which are rated a 120 watts each, 480 watts would be the max. Your meter may say more, but this can be caused by harmonics. I got the transistor values from rfparts.com, so if they are wrong... |

That amp will easily do 500 watts. |

TOO MUCH INPUT FROM RADIO turn wattage on radio DOWN!!!! those 4 2290's should NOT be dead keying ANY MORE then 125-150 watts. having not seen this amp, those 4 2290's should swing about 320 watts PEP, or a little more depending on the transformers. moonrakers #'s are dead on. a custom amp is BUILT to see lots of PEP, & you could quite conceivably see 600 watts PEP out of that configuration. BUT 2 2290's into 4 more is OVERKILL. that amp is SO detuned it's not funny. those 4 2290's need no more drive then a standard CB could give 'em, the added 2 just added to palomars pockets, that's all. putting a higher wattage resistor in there will just trash the finals. that's all. |

I saw the same amp, with the same problem listed on "the online auction site". He may have given up. If this amp does have (4)2290's, how can it easily do 500 watts? Donald duck, how many watts were you putting into this amp? Did you try turning your radio down to see if it would stop the problem? I hope you get it figured out, good luck.
