I have a 40 channel cb, am only. When you key the mike, the needle goes backward instead of forward. I bought this used, was told nothing had been done to it. Anyway, what does that mean? Thanks. Keith in Atlanta |

somebody cranked it up too high probably. does it do the same on an external wattmeter? how does everyone say it SOUNDS? does anybody notice 'backward' swing on their S-meter when receiving your signal? PROBABLY nothing major |

Do you mean the needle stays to the right when unkeyed and goes to the left when keyed up? Or is the needle back swinging with modulation? If your modulation is swinging backward, I will have to agree with pat, the power is set too high. I have a friend with a cobra 29 that he attempted to "tweak", it would put out full power on channel 1 and a few of the low channels, but when you got above 20 power was very low and almost nothing on 40. I finally got the dead key balanced across all 40 channels, but it would still swing backward. I finally got it right after about an hour. I had no idea what I was doing or what I was adjusting, I guess I'm just lucky. |

Sorry to butt in but this post raised a question I have had for a while. When I see my signal meter swinging backwards (recieving) when someone is talking what does that mean. Normally the needle swings forward. Does a backward swing indicate that the person has way to much reflected power? |

I think it means that the other guy has his dead key set very high relative to the peak in the radio, and under audio the needle goes backwards, and that is what you are seeing, a little loss in relative output. Unless it sounds bad, it probably doesn't hurt the actual signal report of the Tx'ing radio at all. IMO, Marconi |

Hotwire~ I think that is usually an Indication of their power being turned up to high, like lets say a radio that was unmodded that keyed 3 watts and had a swing of 1 watt so 4 total, and someone went in there and cranked up the VR that controls power all the way the radio is now keying at it max potential and when modulating it is actually losing power from the transmit. Or atleast thats what I have always thought and noticed on my radios if they get cranked to high. Outkast CEF 650 |
