Which would be better for my base using my S9. A dave made or a fatboy. I have a pr60 power supply. I would like to stick with a 12vdc amp. What do you suggest and how do I ask for it when I make the call?

I hate those "Hot boxes" also. I prefer straight 2 or 4 pill amps with no driver pills. Too easy to blow them up accidently. Wolverine. |

How many amps is your PR60 putting out continous? I have the Pyramid PS52KX. It pumps out about 50 amps constant. It is barely enough to power my TS 500 wide open and I have to back it down on sideband. Sunday morning I tripped the breaker talking to Patzerozero. Custom amps demand twice the power of commercial amps. If I ever decide to get a big custom mobile box to use as a base I will be putting in 220 outlets for my power supplys. There is a local down the street from me known as 88 on channel six. He uses Dave Made Boxes and 220volt power supplys. Sounds very good and really not much splatter at all. Although Fatboys are the shizzzzznite. Both are good and I would be proud to own either. |

look at samlex or IOTA power supplies. EXPENSIVE but they put out 90 to 100 amps CONSTANT, good enough for 4 or 6 pill custom, dx1600 will work too. also can get 150 amp supply from fatboy & x force HOWEVER they may float up to 18 volts, not good for a commercially made amp... i don't think that pyramid does much more then 35 constant, hotwire. |

I used to run my TS DX500 off of it, then I have a 20 amp one for the radio and small TS modulator amp. Seemed to work OK. I had plenty of ventilation though. Wildrat |

the S9 CAN be made to work with other then '4 x 2879 only' amps. dead key is variable by front control down to 1 watt or less. & back off mic gain to get swing down. when barefoot, audio volume decrease is only noticed when you get REAL LOW, like under 10-15 watts PEP. 2x6 & 1x4 should sound good when backed down to 25-35 watts PEP. dx667 however doesn't like much more then 10-15 watts PEP in. |

No Wildrat, I was curious to see which amp that you would settle for. Patzerozero is correct. Back down on the variable and mike gain, and you should have no problem. Your power supply is still suspect in my opinion. I'd opt for a power supply that would put out at least 100 amps constant, so that your S-9 and Davemade won't be starved for current. The only 4- pill that I have, is the non-custom Palomar 450HD. Your current power supply would run this commercial amp with no problem. How big is your davemade anyway??. Wolverine. |
