1) Is only one PolyPhaser(PP) required for each run of coax?
2) Is a PP only for nearby strikes or will it handle direct strikes?
3) Does the PP require it's own seperate ground?
4) What keeps the Lightning strike from just going in your grounds for the other equipment ?
If someone knows where I can read up on the PP I would appreciate the info. I will do a search of Copper to see if their is a review of them.

Well, I read the info there but it did not answer my questions. I guess I will have to wait till the PP comes tomorrow from Copper and hope the paperwork sheds some light on them. |

Wildrat, I cannot answer the specifics of your question, but it is a very good question. If a lightning strike can get to any ground inside or outside of your house you can bet it will likely kill a lot of electrical stuff including light bulbs and little expensive things inside your appliances, particularly if you have an old two wire system and it uses a water pipe as a ground somewhere.
I had a direct strike to an antenna in a 70' pine. The coax was not connected and was wrapped around the tree near the base. The end was just hanging out over the earth. The tree was killed, the coax and antenna were destroyed, and where the coax was against the tree it burned a path all the way down to where the coax was wrapped around the base. Then the current went into the earth beneath the end of the coax and it dug a trench 8" wide and about 12" deep about 8' long over to where my underground water supply came to the house from the street. Of course everything in the house connected to the old water pipe system serving as ground got smoked. The old part of the house only had two wires for the house wiring and thus many appliances used the water pipes as a ground.
I assume that if nothing had been attached to these pipes for a ground and I had modern three-line wiring instead, through out the house, this probably would not have damaged as much as it did.

Wildrat,
On a side note a couple of months ago I took a DIRECT hit to our IMAX which Destroyed the IMAX and the Coax AND the Polyphasers PROTECTED ALL RADIO EQUIPMENT, Meters, Amps and EVERYTHING we had connected in line.
As we had a SINGLE POINT GROUND FOR EVERYTHING as described in the Review.
Every Radio, Antenna Switch, Meters, Amps, Power Supplies, Speakers, Phones, and (EVERYTHING) is all grounded to the Same "SINGLE POINT" GROUND as the Polyphasers. I run polyphasers on both the Horz & Vert side for the beams and one for the Imax.
Are they worth the investement?
YOU BET! when all 3 of them cost less than one radio.

So if I am reading the review and discussion correctly everything gets connected to the same ground. The ground wires for the Radios,meters, amps,fans ect.
The coax from the antenna,should it only be connected to the PolyPhaser and let the PP supply the ground for the shield?
The jumpers on the equipment should the coax shield be connected to ground?
I hope those questions make since.

Wildrat,
You are Correct you Connect your Coax directly to the Polyphaser.
The Polyphaser should be grounded to a Single Point with all of your other equipment.
Your Antenna and Tower or Mast pipe or Pushup Pole should already be grounded.
