Got bored today and decided to rewire the entire rig. Previously I had it wired as follows. Radio Positive (+) wired to the Accessory spot in the fuse panel. Radio Negative (-) wired to a ground along with the KL-200P using 12 Gauge wire. Amp Positive (+) wired to the battery with a 10 Gauge wire. The radio was dead keying 3 watts swinging to 6 watts with this set up, and the amp was dead keying 20 swinging to 60 on Am with SSB swinging up around 130 watts. Rewired it like this: Ran a 5 foot length of 4 Gauge wire into the car, added a distribution block to the end. Ran the KL-200P Positive (+) to the distribution block along with the 148’s Positive (+) Ran a 8 Gauge ground from the chassis just next to the amp to the KL’s Negative (-) And added a 10 Gauge ground from the radio’s Negative (-) to a chassis ground. The radio now dead keys at 3 watts swinging 7 ½ watts, and the amp is dead keying at 20 swinging to about 85 watts on AM with the SSB now peaking up around 185 watts. Sure wish I would have done this long ago!! Outkast CEF 650 |
