I know that most of you out there have old school model style/years old SUV's, pick-up trucks, suburbans etc., that you run power in, but I want to know from the forum members who run power/cb radios in your modern japanese vehicles with the little alternators in them, what is the most watts you have ever run before the rf started interfering with your computers, dashes, and electronics ? . I'm guessing maybe 200-400 watts pep max. Trunk mounted antennas are exempt. Only roof-top mounted antennas may answer. Any world wide record holders out there, who have ran more??. Has anyone ran anywhere near 1000 watts?? Wolverine. |

One other thing, Sky is the limit when it comes to what antenna, and modified electrical system that your using. Can japanese cars take the heat?? Wolverine. |

my freind 93 toyota camry has 70amp alt 1 batt runs a 8 pill dead keys 7oo sings 1500 bird i ran a 95 tacoma with a 160 amp alt ran1 batt for a wile got 600 dead key 1600 from saME 8 PILL i now have a pt Cruiser 2001 from the fact has a 120 alt but i run only 500 bird out of it has a japanese motor "Mitsubishi built" it funny my pt is like a beam of the front end does not like willson at all unless the wip is 2" bigger went to 3 mag and a 3k ant works like a champ no draw on the light or anything elese at 500 watts |

I had a little Ford Festiva which is really made by Kia. Ran my 148 with Galaxy 225 2xsd1446. When keyed up it would make the alternator belt sqeaul if I had my lights on. I believe it was only a 60 amp alt. Had to go barefoot. I suppose I could of upgraded the system. |

I don’t see why you would have a problem with the cars computer or electrical system by running power. I know of truck drivers who run well over 1000 watts in the newer trucks that have a very sophisticated computer systems. I don’t think any harm will be done to your cars computer as long as the computer gets the voltage it needs and isn’t starving for power when the amp is keyed. Be sure you have good grounding. Remember, this is just my opinion |

Mr.Sandman, I'm curious. Your friend who has the Toyota Camry with the 70 amp alternator and 1 battery, is that the 1 battery that powers the vehicle and the 8 pill?, or when you say 1 battery, you're meaning an extra 1 battery besides the stock battery??. Where does he get the voltage, to power an 8- Pill??. Does his vehicle use a total of 2 batteries, one for the car, and 1 battery for the 8 pill? Please explain. Wolverine. |

Moonraker, I also understand what you're saying about the big trucks, but those trucks are big, with 200+ amp alternators, diesel engines, extra batteries, etc., that come from the factory that way. I can see them powering up amps that will do over a 1000 watts easily, because the voltage is already there. Japanese vehicles are a whole another animal. Computers aren't shielded as well, voltage has to come from extra batteries (Where do you have the room to store them), and higher output alternators. Even with sufficient grounding, and the thin sheet metal that japanese cars are known for, the computers still take a beating, and electronics start to "Wig" out. I'm still trying to figure out how Mr.Sandman's friend runs an 8- pill with a 70 amp alternator, and 1 battery in the vehicle. Wolverine. |

I run a DX 1600 in my 2001 Tacoma. I grounded all of the truck's panels to the frame using copper strapping, and also grounded the doors and hood to the body of the truck with thick woven ground straps. I power the amp from a battery mounted under the toolbox, and charge it via an isolator between it and the alternator. I run a 102" inch steel whip, and have never had the computer so much as burp! However, I keep the dead key at about 175 watts, and SSB at about 800... Be careful not to overdrive your amp, because if you don't it will probably get into your vehicle's electronics. Just my 2 cents... |

Dx 1600 huh. That baby should put out, what about 1200 watts,if driven with a 100 watt driver. Kilowatt, with a 175 watt dk, I believe you should be getting about 600-650 peak on AM. That's a big amp to have on tap, with big reserve lungs if you know what I mean, and you're not even tickling the amp powerwise. Kudo's to you, that amp will last forever. How big is your alternator in your toyota tacoma, rated in amps?? Wolverine. |

i seen a guy pull up next to a old man in a 05 caddy and kill his car now that was funny ! not shure what all he is running but i know with 10 batts and 4 alts it has to be a bunch ! he also fuzzedup my digi cam when i was taking video ! ! Strange huh !

1 batt for the whole car a 2 pill driver and a 8 pill small case fatboy box and he has and a willson 1000 antenna dont ask me why it does not stall out if anyone is in the braintree ma ... ask for badger 583 i will get pics of car soon as i can and mine |

Hi Team, My ride is a 1998,Isuzu Wizard(Rodeo),5 door 4x4 SUV,3.1 litre turbo diesel with automatic transmission. Antenna:11m Front left fender mounted Wilson 1000. Antenna :10m through to 160m "bird catcher" mounted on the spare wheel rear carrier. 2 x 80Ah Batteries paralelled up i.e. one in the engine-bay and the other in the luggage area. Messenger 1200 driven with a Kenwood TS50S.This configuration choked the engine and on the move caused the transmission to shift up and down.(bucking bronco). Months later I fitted an Ameritron ALS500-M driven with a Yaesu FT100D. Same issue again. I fitted some ferrite beads/clamps to certain areas of the CPU wiring loom harness which has helped i.e. 80m and 160m are fine but 40m and upwards are not.I have more ferrite work to trial. 73rds from CEF 195. kiwikid are going stright to the batt with amp and the radio i hope ?the amp you are running ned 2 8g just for hotwire and 2 8g for the ground or 4g for hot and grounding . ground your amp to the bolt that holds your seet in make short run 1to3 feet long for ground hope this helps out let me know please i will try to help you get it running you shound not have problem running that setup at all ..im not the best at telling over the computer if i have to i will email my number to u and talk with u or get your and i will pay for the call good luck
