no, sorry. if you splice the coax using a barel connector you will still lose some DB's. probably less than one but who knows. if you are using RG-8 or anything chaper, new coax should be the ONLY option. my antenna cost $50.00 my coax cost $80.00 coax is very important. |

I never really liked using barrel connectors. But my RG-8 to my IMAX-2000 was cut by a lawn mower a few years ago, I repaired the cut with 2 PL-259s and a barrel connector and taped it up real good with electrical tape and the system has worked as good as new and the SWR is still flat. At the time it was cut I couldn't afford 100 foot of new RG-8 so now the sliced coax is still in use. |

I am about to barrel 150 of LMR-400 to 50 more feet of LMR-400 coax to my Imax 2000 on my tower. I don't think you lose nearly as much signal as some think using a barrel connector, maybe 0.1 db gain. I'm a firm believer in good coax. It really does wonders for your ears. Mikefromms |

I've barrel connected RG-8 and another time i've had to barrel connect mini-8. It works, doesn't really mess up your swr or TX- RX that i can notice. It's said that when you do that, you will see slight loss. Probably not enough loss to notice though. Just solder em up good check your swr and start talking. |

Look arounbd for a a female inline socket that matches a PL259. I used to have some but not sure what I did with them. Better than a barrel connector and 2 pl259s |

The effects of a barrel connector are minimal, and you couldn't measure, IMHO, if you tried. Like the coax length thing that sometimes sends folks into anxiety fits, if you have to use a barrel, do it and go get a cup of coffee and relax. It's all good 73 |

don't you run a piece of coax to your 'polyphaser' or whatever type static/lightning device you use(you DO use 1, right)? it's the same type of effect/loss. it COULD be a good place to add lightning protection now, or whatever. just make sure to use a HIGH QUALITY barrel connector, preferably amphenol or better... |

see, that's what it's all about Pat; Positive Thinking!!! one man's cut coax is another man's new polyphaser location. |

They have heatshrink with adhesive in it that seals the connection BIG TIME! I have it on ALL my SJO-12/4 Power cable and 14/6 stuff into the connectors for the band PA and It does not buckle, or come loose even with constant low radius flexing. It DOES get abused. It's out in the shop, I don't know if it has a branding, I'll check. I bought a boat-load at a flea market of a slew of larger diameters. I'll have to go through the box and see if any are still tagged. Chad |

a 'lightning/static protection device'. some type should be used in conjunction with the ground wire from your coax/radio/antenna. check out tech 808's pictures of his installation, i believe under 'my pictures' thread. if that's not where it is, 808 will tell us! |

Go see my post in the antenna section, and then go to Copper store front and type in polyphaser, two will come up, there is about a 10 buck difference between the two. The higher dollar one has higher power handling capability, got mine today in the Copper box I have not opened yet. Wildrat |
