Copper Forum Members, I received an e-mail asking about this mod I posted way back on the Copper Forum here and figured I would re-post it in case any of you were looking for it. RANGER 2950 SUPER SWING MOD! It can be done but you need a steady hand as you will be working on surface-mount-parts. You also WILL need a copy of the parts layout diagram, downloadable from the RCI America site. The diagram is needed to I.D. and locate the existing parts (they are not marked on the board in the radio)... Once you get the diagram, tune the radio up to 100% modulation (with the limiter intact!), 1W low power setting & wherever you want the high power setting to be. On the diagram, find chip-resistor R292 (this would be the same as R285 in the old 2950)... After soldering one end of your 100ohm resistor to the banded-end of the 1N4001 diode, solder the resistor end of this combination, to the left end of R292 (the junction of R292 and C258). The other "diode-end" is to be soldered to the other side of R292 or the associated nearby ground-trace. NOW, with the variable power set for a 1W dead key, the modulation should swing to almost full power and the modulation will not splatter or distort...ENJOY! Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN
