Hey yall , I was given an old radio shack 23 channel radio . My question is can you get crystals for this radio that would let you put upper or lower channels in it ? And would it even be worth messing with ? Thanks , Travis . |

oh yeah you can, just do a search in your web browser. Type "CB CRYSTALS" in the search bar. |

DEPENDING on what radio it is it may or may not be worth your time. Remember 23 ch radios using " crystalplexers only gain 4 ch at a time when adding crystals unless you invest in a board from CB INT which will switch 23 at a time. Some later 23's used a PLL and can use switched crystals for 23 at a time ..... BTY crystals are 12-15 bucks EACH. Now all that said unless this is a killer SSB radio probley not worth the time ...... Since the radio is not leagal to start with. |

changing xtals will ONLY change freqs, you can NOT get EXTRA channels without adding some type of 'expander' kit depending on what you're looking to do, it's probably NOT worth the effort... |

Sure you can, it's just expensive. Worth it? Probably not as a primary radio. Something else to check - some 23 channel radios are PLL synthesized and you can't just swap crystals to get new frequencies. |
