I have adjusted the antenna down to 1.3 on 1 and 1.6 on 40. Is this low enough to run my texas star dx500 and S9 without causing damage. Also on this antenna it has a matching lead that they say to connect to ground if you can't get swr below 2.1, then it says that this will cause the resonant frequency to drop approx. 20 channels. What does that mean? Wildrat |

Wildrat, With a SWR of 1.3 to 1.6 you are OK and should have no problems. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

I never have found an instance where connecting the lead made a difference. Try it and see if it helps or makes matters worse. If it lowers the resonant frequency, then it is making the antenna longer, opposite of your problem. I did have one of these antennas that was too long, even with the stinger removed. After talking to their engineer, I decided to grind off some metal. By the time I was done, the brass tip was ground off below the set screw. Now it is a perfect match on my vehicle, although I have recently been using an ss102. The higher reflect and lower power rating of the Wilson makes me nervous running power. Overall, the Wilson is a very good antenna for low power. Tune SWR's until it is the same on each end of the band and lower in the middle or lowest at your favorite channel. |
