Hey guys I am getting ready to purchase another radio to add to the collection. I am just wondering if you guys would get a S9 or a Galaxy 93 or 95. I am not looking for the loudest radio I am just looking for a nice sounding radio .I am really looking for a user friendly radio , with the ability to reach out and touch someone when i need to . Thanks in advance for all of the input |

I'm not one to knock the Galaxy radios. I use to be in that camp until Cheesy showed me the way... S9...no choice about it. You can choose which amp you want to run, if any. With a 48T,93T,95T you are stuck with pickin' a really big amp that isn't practical. Of course those radios are great radios and strong right out of the box. The 99 is also a great radio, and the S9 and 99 are very similiar radios. Both the faces and the PCB's. BUT the S9 has better choices of parts in that PCB than the Galaxy. They also have the processors that Galaxy doesn't have. They are also CPU controlled instead of PLL chip controlled freq's. If you like that Galaxy sound, then you SHOULD go with the Galaxy. But if you want something different and in my opinion, better, then you SHOULD go with the S9. I haven't been in the S9 camp long enough to stand on a soap box and yell and praise it to the point of causing the masses to go out and buy one. But Pat can, he can point out all the 'good stuff'... |

If you would like to get a base the DX-2517 is the best base copper sells, until magnum brings out one better than that putrid 3200 p.u.Bigbob |

magnum service/customer support...if it ain't been butchered, SAM is the man... a magnum is EVERYHTING GALAXY has the capabilities to do, but just doesn't go the extra few inches to do... the transmit is clean & clear, even with the topgun ON & up close, sure it has that give away 'compressed' sound, but it's still clean & clear. the receiver is SILENT when the airwaves are quiet, & it pulls out signals most other radios don't even know are out there. as long as it's adjusted properly out of the box, no major surgery is needed to improve ANYTHING, and you have so MANY options of frequency coverage-programmable by moving a jumper, & changeable by moving it again. so it doesn't do 150 watts, that's not enough for me anyway and if you want EVERYTHING the S9 has to offer, for about $60 less, get a BRAND-NEW blue-faced omega force. THAT'S the CPU-controlled radio, the S9 is PLL, & it's xmit & rcv performance is ALMOST identical! freq coverage as well as 5 digit vs 6 differ, but, hey... |

Shane..depends on what you want out of the mic. The ultimate in noise cancelling or one that mutes out most of it but provides loud and CLEAR modulation. For the later choice I'd pick the RK-56 as the 636 mutes out WAY too much for me. I had one and kept being told to check my mic gain because I wasn't being heard loud enough. If you don't drive something too noisey then the stock mic that comes on the magnum is PLENTY loud. Hank |

how come nobody ever mentions the astatic road devil noise cancelling power mic in that lovely shade of BRIGHT-DEVIL-RED? i don't use a power mic in my mobile, though just may get another road devil & see if it helps me get out better. but i put 1 on my rci5054dx100 at the base for 6 meters & have had NO complaints! actually compliments from those who heard the stock mic & then the astatic. apparently it's acceptable sounding to the general amateur population |

I find the 93-T to be all I need in a mobil, you need no amp, the radio itself gets the job done . very clear very loud. And there goes Big Bob liking the Galaxy DX 2517 again, GADS BOB |

I have two Magnums and there is no need to use a power mic on either one, audio is great. I've been in radio since '75 and without a doubt these radios are the best SSB preformers I have owened. Just my 2cents :-))))) |

Until they come out with the S-9 with two 2290's the 95T wins here. The S-9 has a great receiver but so does the 95T. They are both monsters in the audio department. I have read that Magnum will release the S-9 in the watt range of the 95T at the beginning of the new year. If you go with the S-9 the Astatic 636 will not drive the radio as it was designed with a power mic. The stock mic on the S-9 will be your best bet and the radio will sounds great with it. If you must have a noise cancelling mic the good news is the RK-56 will drive the radio nicely and sound great doing it. Both radios are winners and the decision will no doubt be a hard one. Whatever you choose who does the tune is your next important decision. Then antenna you have locked up and it is a good choice. At this time if it were me I would be buying the 95T. If what I read is true come the new year that decision is not as clear cut anymore.

I have the S9 with the RK56 and love the combination. I just have to remember to hold the mic right up to my mouth. I'm not used to using noise cancelling mics.
