Much to many people's sorrow, Uniden discontiued the sideband radios in the mid-late 1990s. |

What do you mean "mid-late 1990's"? I saw them listed in catalogs as recently as the 2003-2004 Walcott CB catalog. |

Bluegrass: Yes, this highly over priced truck stop store that you speak of may have been listing them, but to have them for sale is another story. Uniden stopped making the Grant Radios with the Grant LT model in the mid-late 1990s. On the other hand, your question was: Is Uniden still making the Grant sideband radios? And the answer is no and the last ones were made in the mid-late 1990s. Now, for the best part.If Uniden was still making the Grant sideband radios, Copper Electronics would have them in stock and at the lowest prices in the country. |

search the web for a 'general sherman', general like in the infamous lee radios. it is a legal 40 ch SSB radio that is a clone of the texas ranger 296 which is a clone of a uniden grant XL which is a clone of a cobra 148...anyway, as far as i know, they are STILL being made & still available. they ARE EXACTLY THE SAME & USE THE EXACT SAME MODS!!! the 'new' made in china cobra 148's are ALSO the exact same as the originals, they do use cheaper parts, plastic pots, etc, but still mod the same. IF that is all you could find, i'd say go for it if the price is right. i modded 1 a year ago, added a texas star amp to the installation last spring, it is in a 22 wheel dump truck EVERY DAY & has yet to miss a beat. also check out ALL the e-auctions as well for NIB! |

Yes, The original 148 GTL and the Uniden Grant LT/XL and the 148F-GTL are as close as it gets to being the same radios. Since other companies have had clones on the market. As of late as close as it gets to being the same radio is the General Sherman. The General Sherman and the new China made 148-GTL are the only ones still on the market, and from what others on the forum have said this new China made Cobra 148 GTL is a close copy, I haven't seen either radio, so I'm only going on what I'm reading here on the forum. |

OK I have a question too. I know how well loved the Uniden Grant CBs are. I found at a flea market a President Grant 10 meter. Is this a good rig like the Grant CB? It has 11 meter and looks brand new. 400 bucks is a little steep for me. |

400.00 is just plain STUPID!! Look at what you can buy now for that amount! You can buy radio's that would smoke Grants for half that amount. Ok, I'm done. |

Hotwire: The Grant you are speaking of is the export 10 meter radio and yes, that's the price tag on them, But I like Troublemaker feel that the export Grants are way over priced. |

am/fm/ssb, 3 bands, & it does require the clarifier to be unlocked if so desired. it's actually a pretty good talker with decent receive-definitely better then the president jackson export. forget the black-faced & superstar grants. the silver faced president & grant classic are the good ones. have had a couple OLDER grant exports, but prefer my XL which cost less then $150 when new. watch the auctions, i've seen a few decent priced export grants, if you really want 1, & NIB LT's, TR296's & shermans at REAL good prices. the XL's command WAY TOO MUCH NIB when the others are the same radio. |
