you're only going to see about 150(reliable) dead key watts, & 500 or so swing. its 2 1446 driver transistors are an aweful lot(or awefully undertuned) for 4 2879's. 500 watts for under $300 ain't all that bad, the texas star equivalent, more or less(1 2290 driving 4 2879's), a dx667, is about $100 more. a custom amp is gonna be in that same ballpark. it should PROBABLY be a decent, cost effective amp-for a LOW wattage radio, not a HIGH POWER radio... |

Hi. The 775 I seen was listed as having 2 1446's and 4 2290's. Yes I'm looking for a decent cost effective amp. 500 watts sounds like enough for me, well for now anyway. |

hmmm, i have an ad for 1 with 2 1446's & 4 2879's....well, anyway, 4 2290's are gonna get you about 325 watts swing, around 100 dead key. same scenario with the 2-1446's as drivers, though-even MORE SO in the awefully undertuned category, or overkill, however they did it. i suppose their intent was to get more then 325 watts out of it, but i'd be awefully leery of keying it much over 100 watts carrier, just let it swing from there & watch for heat... a texas star dx400 with NO driver & 4 2290's does about as i stated above, with less then 4 watts input, for roughly the same cost, or less. having never used a pal775, but having much experience with texas star, me, personally, i'd go for the TS & guaranteed power, as well as its durability & reputation. |
